    ***Official*** South Africa in Australia

How much do we think Australia need? Obviously anything around 250 or so ought to be pretty tough, although the bats have certainly looked comfortable at times during this match. This might turn out to be a thriller.

Langer bowled by Pollock - and Lawry was so excited he just called Richie "Ricky Benaud".... :)

England's Fast Bowling Coach Returns Home

Do you mean for England? Is there a reason Australia don't turn immediately (in terms of an official, full-time position) to a man like Lillee with such a font of experience, both as a player, and a coach? I can't help thinking there must be personality issues involved, unless Lillee wasn't...

Oh boy, the South Africans are gonna be furious when they see the replay of Langeveldt's "no-ball" that Rudolph caught Ponting off. Looks like Lee did really well today. Obviously this test isn't likely to go the distance, but it's been a really good contest up to this point. Still anybody's...

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

Are you referring to the Champions Trophy study? Of course it was only part of the story. That, and the rest of the ongoing research by scientists commissioned (and accepted) by the ICC as part of their research program into bowling actions is what lay behind the policy change.

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

BTW, your edits to continually redefine your claims are quite amusing. :) Nobody's claiming that the findings of the research were to be used for action against any bowler, that's just a straw man you inexplicably built. The claim is that indeed, the ICC accepted the research and acted upon...

Man, you have to be one of the most disingenuous debaters at this forum. I quoted already, from a report at the ICC's website, in a post to which you gave a bullcrap response about it not being intended to prove that bowler A was at X specific level of straightening (which it was never intended...

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

Oh, please. They implemented just about every recommendation of the expert panel as a result of the ICC research program. It wasn't designed as proof to say that this bowler or that bowler was specifically operating within accepted tolerance levels. It was designed to show that that most...

Yeah, Pakistan's performances were pretty good (particularly Rana's and Afridi's), but I never really felt like the comp was a three-horse race. I guess WI were hard done by in that early washout though.

I've got to say that I agree that I can't see Sri Lanka being that threatening this summer, in spite of their recent spike in the ODI rankings. Hopefully we're wrong though, 'cause I would love to see a genuine three-way contest for a change. Can't remember when the last one was - maybe when...

    Caption this: James Franklin

LOL! I love this one. This and your "flubber" one in the Gillespie thread have been two of the funniest (for me at least) for a while. And welcome back, seems like you've been away for some time. :)

'You just dropped the world cup'

Yeah. It's a little ambiguous, but I guess it suggests run-rate more than the previous victory....

'You just dropped the world cup'

Yeah, that was always my understanding. Have you got a link? A lot of articles suggest it was an issue of Australia having a superior run-rate (or just finishing higher on the Super Six table), and that's why they went through to the final after the tie. ie...

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

Oh, and social, one more thing, I was confused at your assertion that the ICC doesn't accept the research, or that they hadn't "validated any match situation testing". I thought I remembered that at the time of the introduction of the new tolerance levels, they directly mentioned it as a major...

    ***Official*** South Africa in Australia

Well, if his preference is English-bashing, there's probably not a lot to do of it in this thread... :p What kind of lead do people think is plausible for South Africa? They certainly got off to a pretty good start last night, but I think they'd be ecstatic with even a 30-50 lead on first...

'You just dropped the world cup'

You know, that's what I always thought I remembered (makes the most sense to me, too), but just about everything I've read since suggests that it was about superior run-rate... Wouldn't mind some clarification on this if anybody knows for sure.

'You just dropped the world cup'

Yes, apparently Shane Warne had told the Aussie bats not to walk off the field immediately if Gibbs swallowed one, 'cause he had a habit of being overly showy with his celebrations, and losing control of the ball on occasion. Which is exactly what happened - Gibbs dropped the catch for no other...

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

It's not necessarily about being a better umpire all round though - clearly calling Murali was always going to be an extremely hot issue, and I genuinely think that Hair was one of the few umpires around who was willing to do so. So I won't excoriate Hair for doing so, because I think a lot...

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

These two statements completely contradict each other. Not that you've been reluctant to do this. And research has also shown that the vast majority of bowlers are at least straightening their arms to some degree, whether you want to acknowlege it or not. You've also conceded this already in...

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

Yeah, one of the worst things I've seen happen on a cricket field (his grappling physically with an international umpire). Plus, a couple of years ago he and his brother beat the crap out of some schoolkids who wandered into his backyard to retrieve their cricket ball. Not a nice guy.
