Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

The problem I have with what you are saying is twofold: 1) Given what you've written, you are giving the term "native Australians" a very awkward meaning. Because, as I illustrated, you could certainly get somebody born and bred in Australia abusing Pakistanis in another language, and I...

Cricket Web Server Move - Saturday 11th November 2006: 9am Australia Time

Unfortunately I'm still seeing a degree of inaccessibility. Can't say it's the worst I've experienced, but it's far from the best, too. I'm having more pronounced issues submitting posts than reading threads in general though.

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

It's probably hard to ban people for life. But throwing them out, same as you treat being drunk and abusive, or violent, will probably do the job anyway.

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

Your urdu example doesn't even line up - for some (extremely strange, I might add) reason you and others continually ignore a very basic explanation for the use of the word that takes it entirely out of the same context. And no matter how many times I repeat it (and other Australians agree)...

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

I'll grant it if it's people that aren't citizens, and who are travelling or haven't been in the country for a reasonable length of time - I guess I see expats more as permanent residents. But if it's somebody who's a citizen of the country, it's our problem. And I do believe that if you are...

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

On the other hand, if your point is simply that Australian crowds shouldn't be tarnished as racist in general because of the acts of a small minority, I'm in complete agreement. But that doesn't necessitate me running to dismiss the guys responsible for those comments as expats that Australia...

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

I genuinely don't understand what you are trying to say here if it's not that expats aren't real Australians. I get the distinction you're trying to make, I just don't see why it's so important to you. I also think you are making an assumption to make this true, rather than resting it on a...

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

Exactly. If you've got a problem, you should face up to it and deal with it. And Aussie crowds can be quite welcoming to foreign players, too, and there IS an amazing atmosphere at our grounds. It's just a very small minority of schmucks. It also pays to remember that other countries have...

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

You've somehow convinced yourself of this, with no proof. This has never actually been established, it's just been insisted on by various people who didn't actually know either, and who clung to the idea that Aussies wouldn't know these words. But why split hairs? It happened in Australia...

    From The Pub- Coaches Chat

Yeah, that's what I think - there ought to be some kind of intervention by the fielding side (and the current rule caters for that). Although I guess it could be argued that hit wicket doesn't necessarily involve one. I'm happy with how it is, though. As to the LBW, I'm in favor of assuming...

Article on Ponting - Kumar Sangakkar

Haha, he's right though. Mind you, it still puts him at the same level of about 90% of professional sports writers (he's certainly ahead of many players who have their own columns, and who often use ghost-writers), so he's more than qualified to be a regular columnist. The breathless "one of...

Graeme Smith warns Panesar of racist abuse

I agree. It's based on a foolish assumption that Australians don't know terms like "Kaffir", but as I've said before, anybody who's seen Lethal Weapon 2 would be familiar with these terms of abuse. Fundamentally though, I don't know why we keep practicing this denial - it's a small minority of...

    The Ashes Article Thread

LOL, Roebuck's columns always have that homo-****** streak to them. Although the salad tossing doesn't really work when you're talking about hands, really. Maybe it's just us. There's a piece in The Guardian where Shaun Tait taunts the English batsman with allegations they can't...

    No Asians ?

It's not that I disagree necessarily that Gilly is hit or miss or even your overall evaluation, it's more the strong line you draw between then and now. Gilchrist was actually rated by many at the time, and was considered quite dangerous. As to average, his was 35.78 walking into the 1999...

    Umpires Announced

Yeah, no real surprises. In spite of the criticism he receives, I don't think Bowden's that bad, and Dar is fairly consistent. IMO, Bucknor's actually improved a fair bit over the last year or so, but Rudi "Blind Pew" Koertzen is still as horrid as ever. Love his new look though.
