To all indian fans: India v SA or the Ashes??

I think the last India/SAF ODI might clash with the first Ashes test, and then there's a few clashes here and there through the test series. I think the timezone differences ought to keep them apart though. From memory, tests in South Africa roughly start around 10pm here in Melbourne.

Has there ever been a Test cricketer to whine to the papers so much as...

Sounds apocryphal, but you never know. Losing your girlfriend to Tom Williams is a bit of a body blow though. Mind you, it would not surprise me in the slightest if someday Williams came out of the closet, so that just adds fuel to the fire as far as Johnson's gender is concerned. And Watto's...

    Girls playing with boys?

I could be mistaken, but I think Jameee was agreeing with you, rather than trying to make a counter-argument. I think he was just explaining why it wouldn't work the other way, and you wouldn't have a guy playing in the girls' comp.

    Caption this: Lee & McGrath

Lee always thought the Aussie team-bonding wee wee ritual was extremely funny, but this time, McGrath was to get the last laugh - because he'd been hitting the grog, the baked beans and the tasty cheddar hard, and it showed.

Giles will be fit for the Ashes

    Excellent....

    No Asians ?

They did it in '96, too. Won every one of their group games extremely comfortably, and then crashed against an inconsistent West Indian side they were heavily backed to beat. Ultimately though, like you said, it's not unpredictable for them to top one of the groups. Just one small gripe - not...

Has there ever been a Test cricketer to whine to the papers so much as...

Yeah, that's the one. Funny how the memory plays tricks - I named that as one of the best moments of the ODI series just before the Ashes started, but my recall was that it was somebody a bit more physically imposing than Goughy. Looks a bit tragic in the pic, but was a lot better live.

Your best moment as a Sports fan

I'd probably say that for me, the altercation between Steve Waugh and Curtley Ambrose in Trinidad, as the West Indians first started to realise they might actually go down. There was just something that invoked Mr T and Rocky Balboa - with the immortal sendoff from Waugh: "Why don't you go and...

    No Asians ?

Sanz -- It probably is flame bait to a degree, but mate, people do have a laugh at that kind of thing. I'm sure similar would be happening if Australia got knocked out after the prelim rounds, were we hosting the event. This one's a little bit funnier because every single subcontinental team...

    No Asians ?

As to topping groups, it's probably a fair comment in general though. Where Great Birtannia went wrong is probably the overall comment that they bring their best game to the big tourneys, period. 'Cause they have a tendency to look red-hot in the preliminary rounds before they blow it all in a...

Group A - India, England, Australia, West Indies

Yeah, I thought that was pretty bad, myself. There seems to be a prevailing sentiment that fielders can be fooled into thinking they've taken the catch when this happens, but in my experience, when a ball took an upward trajectory into my palms like that (because it hit the ground first), I had...

    Censor stuff and moderation

Yeah, I'm also finding the reaching attempts to establish some kind of equivalency between how luckyeddie left the site and how benchmark left the site, in the name of "consistency" pretty depressing. I didn't really get along with luckyeddie either (in fact, I got the distinct vibe that he...

    Warne or McGrath?

Is the hypothesis that we know everything of their entire careers up to now, or that we take both players as they were in their early 20's? 'Cause if it's the former, yes, I'd probably go for McGrath, but only just. If it was the latter, I'd take Warne - in spite of a rough initiation to...

That ghosts thing was hilarious - I think it was two or three players that got spooked, not just Watson. Didn't someone like Flintoff or Harmy put their arms above their head and go "Whooooo" after they dismissed one of the Aussie players concerned, during the Ashes? Anyway, is Kym Johnston...

Greg Chappell should consider coming out on the field and giving his players a good dressing down with a megaphone after another meek exit from team India.

Well, this is looking more comfortable than I thought. Ponting and Martyn have been doing very nicely here, nothing too stupid, milking Harbhajan and Mongia over their spells for three or four an over. Gilly and Watson laid a great platform, and bar any late surprises, this game is pretty much...

Group A - India, England, Australia, West Indies

I'm not sure how easy 250 will be to chase tonight, but I do know it's a whole lot better than chasing 280 or so, which at 2/130 or so might have looked fairly viable just after halfway through India's innings. I agree actually that Ponting handled the bowlers well, bar asking too much of...
