    *Archived* Whatever you like....

I have this happen to me sometimes too. Was playing a world cup game as Aus against Nederlands I think and was chasing 190-odd. Made it to 70 without loss and just inexplicably lost all my wickets for another 70 runs. Happens in tests sometimes too - the most surprising teams just own me sometimes.

You drew your last home series against Bangladesh. You boggle my mind. :D

Ways to effectively use practice and technique

What are some ways people use batting practice and batting technique in ICC 2008? I used to play 2002 for the longest time and it was quite simple in that. I'd give my 4 bowlers a bowling practice and my 4 best batsmen batting practice and just roll with that. Now with 2008 I'm trying to take...

    Cricket and Education

Not to hijack the thread by continuing this discussion but I guess I see what you mean. In the US, generally, I believe the vast majority of MBAs do the degree after 4-5 years of working which is supposed to give them the experience necessary to proceed with learning about managing businesses. I...

    South Africa or Australia ODI's

After 4-0 loss to England, I can't see them doing much better against Australia. Probably won't be that one-sided, though.

    Cricket and Education

I'm not familiar with the system of education in India, but isn't an MBA an advanced degree such that you need an undergraduate degree to start? I know MBBS in India (or the British system) doesn't work that way and you start right after 12th, but I figured MBA was universally post-graduate...

    Cricket and Education

I think among recent Indians Kumble (and possibly Srinath) are university educated. Kumble is a computer programmer or something like that too. Not sure how many other Indians have college degrees, but the Indian system of selection seems to really favor those who have been playing serious...

Boycott, does he have something against windies players ?

I think Sanga is for sure the better batsman, but Gilchrist is a unique kind of player that every team would love to have. One of those players who can simply turn the game on a dime for you ala Sehwag albeit they do it from different positions in the batting order. Sanga is the better over all...

What was wrong with the W.I ?

I did a win-loss comparison, actually. From about 1996 to 2000 or something like that. WI was something like 11-15. The only teams with positive records during that time were Aus, SA and Pakistan. India had a dismal 7-15 or something like that. I also did an average comparison to see how...

    Greatest XI for your County/State

Man, I can't even think of 11 Hyderabadi players... Azharuddin Laxman Raju ...

Boycott, does he have something against windies players ?

I seriously doubt Boycott had statsguru open and seriously punched in players and looked up stats to come up with his best XI of the last 5 years. He probably went for a "gut feel" team and when you do that, you tend to remember 1) the people who stick out in your mind and/or 2) the people who...

Who was your first cricketing icon?

Really got into cricket around the 1997 Sharjah series. When Tendulkar hit those 2 centuries against Australia in the qualifying match and in the final. So Tendulkar was basically my first cricketing icon, still is. Since then, however, I've also come to really enjoy watching the cricket of...

What was wrong with the W.I ?

I wouldn't say they "failed" per se. They weren't the world beaters they once were, but that's easily explainable - only 1 or 2 good batsmen, 2 good bowlers, whereas at one point they had 4 good fast bowlers, several champion batsmen, etc. They weren't great anymore but they weren't that bad...

Trouble in the English camp : Pietersen Vs Moores!?

That's most unfortunate. Odd that no more than half-a-year ago things were on such a high with the beating SA in the dead rubber, Pietersen's century on captaincy debut and the 4-0 ODI victory. We were all set to see Dhoni's and KP's captaincy career unfold in tandem. :(

Pick a South Africa XI readmission to 2008

That's an almost identical team to what I would've picked. The one change I would make is to probably replace McMillan with one of the more recent South African batsmen who are showing great promise - DeVilliers, Prince or Duminy. I think one solid all-rounder in the form of Kallis is enough...

    Prediction thread

I kinda agree with your numbers. I predict a test average of about 23-24 and an ODI average of 18-19. But I think his economy will be 4+. Can't see a bowler keeping an under 4 economy rate the way pitches and batting approach is nowadays. It's kind of flattering now cuz he's only really played...

    Cricinfo Awards 2008

Obviously my view is limited to matches I've followed and so probably there's a hint of bias towards India. My votes would be: Test Batting: Sehwag's 201* vs SL (runner up: Sehwag's 83 vs. Eng) - Sehwag almost single-handedly won this test for India in a tour that was otherwise quite dismal...

Players whose image change during their career

Laxman is probably one of those players whose popularity and perception has consistently increased over the course of his career. In the beginning, he was kind of just there. Following his 281 against Australia and ever since he's slowly included himself in a group involving Tendulkar and...

Best International Cricketing moment of 2008?

This for me as well. And then Tendulkar's 4th innings century to follow as India chased down 387. I was so happy we could snatch that game from what looked like almost certain defeat. Also, Ganguly's century in his last series made me feel pretty good and the fact that he had such a good last...

    Michael Hussey

This pretty much sums it up, I think. This slump was almost too well expected, he wasn't going to average 60+ for the rest of his career. He's still a decent batsman, and I am fairly sure he'll end up with a 50+ average when he retires, but he's been on an almost fairy tale high so far - and it...
