*Official* 2022 New Zealand Tour of England, Ireland, Scotland & Netherlands

I think it's Bryce McGain (Cape Town 2009)- at one point his figures were 10.3-2-100-0. There was also Shahadat Hossain (Lord's 2005), whose final figures were 12-0-101-0 (the hundred came up off his penultimate ball).

England players and selection discussion thread

Alec Bedser (top class RMF) and his twin Eric (useful county batsman/off-spinner) weren’t very similar as players, though it’s said that they tossed a coin to decide which of them got to be the pace bowler.

jimmy101 did quite a few sims using squads people had picked (can't remember if any of them were in draft format - usually players would each pick, say, a different country and then announce their squads), but sadly he went on indefinite hiatus from the forum last year.

I thought I should check the Pope stat; it does seem to be true... 108 players have scored 1000+ runs for England; apart from January, at least 7 were born in each month... in fact, every other month has at least one player with 4000+ runs (the second lowest is February: Matt Prior with 4099)...

    The Records and Milestones thread

Ollie Pope is the first player born in January to score 1000 runs in Tests for England. Among England Test cricketers born in December, Joe Root is not the highest scoring batsman - but curiously he is (AFAICS) the leading wicket-taker of all the spinners.

Rubbish players with long first class careers

Just looking at the averages of some of the players in the umpires list in a later Playfair: Mervyn Kitchen: 354 matches, 15230 runs @ 26.25, 2 wickets Barrie Leadbetter: 147 matches, 5373 runs @ 25.34, 1 wicket David Shepherd: 282 matches, 10672 runs @ 24.47, 2 wickets As it happens, all of...

A large part of the reason is that he's had more innings batting at 10 (79) than anyone else (2nd is Bedi with 69).

The top scoring #9 and #10 in Tests (both Stuart Broad) is also playing in the same match.
