Another hundred and 1000 first class runs for Mariu in his 10th game. How long till we find him a place in the test side? Maybe give him a taste on the winter Zimbabwe tour?

As TGC said last year, Southee bowls so slowly these days, that looked a bit like one of those staged pool catches that gets sent into Fox sports to play during the lunch break.

Phillips only knows how to catch blinders. Doesn't give him time to think too much.

Lol. Sounds nearly as bad as the 2nd test v Sri Lanka.

Not much more to be said about the team's declining fielding standards. Gone from probably the most reliable set of hands in the world, to distinctly middle of the pack, maybe even bottom third.

The problem is he's offering very little threat while doing so. Woakes-esque.

Lol, Rae's body language upon dismissing Chapman. Universally understandable as "Thank **** that's over."

Got the feeling that O'Rourke could be the weak link in the attack today. His stock length will just sit up very nicely unless the surface has quickened up from yesterday.

How tf was this bloke left out v the Aussies last summer? He's completely lost his run-up and he's still scything through.

Not watching, but it sounds like Southee actually bowled a really nice new ball spell there. But when you see Smith muscling it through 10kph quicker it's really hard to fathom how Southee can continue to take the new ball (or be selected at all for that matter).

Let it not be forgotten that amidst the jubilation of the India series win that we still dropped a bunch of dollies in that series.

Chapman with a decent sniff of a triple here if the lower order can hang with him

Apparently this pitch was prepared on the same part of the block as the ND v Canterbury game. In that game, both teams scored 350ish in their first innings, before Canterbury collapsed against Wagner and his apprentice Fisher in their second innings and ND romped to an easy win.

Yeah, Phillips will always find ugly ways to get out, but he's immensely talented, and doesn't have any obvious weaknesses save his propensity to play spin off the back foot regardless of length. Speaking of ugly dismissals: Rachin, yeesh. As phenomenally talented as he is (and I honestly think...
