    NZ domestic season 2023/24

It did seem a bit awkward he's putting the boot in to the side when his son has been captain/senior player there. Not sure what's happened to his form. I think his email was prompted by an interview with Russell Mawhinney the new chair of Otago Cricket about the future of the province...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Rutherford critical of Otago and their inability to hold on to players. I think they have a pretty good batting line up now, but losing Rae and Smith has left their pace attack a bit underwhelming. They did well at the under 19 tournament so must be doing some things right...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Watched a replay of the innings. He seems particularly strong hitting in the V and through the off-side but also pulled out some good pull shots when they tried to bounce him. I'm not sure many other guys on the domestic circuit could have played an innings like that. Will see how he goes...

Definitely not the dominant force he was last season. Hopefully the Otago captaincy isn't affecting his batting.

Old guy at Onslow has been telling me for about 3 years that Robinson will be a Black Cap.

Dean Jones used them towards the end of his time in the ODI side too.

I see Hekmat ended up collecting 4 wickets after the NZ development openers Cumming and Sunde got their chase off to a solid start. He bowls leg spin and is in the under 19 World Cup squad. NZ's spin stocks are looking pretty good.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Gillette Cup week with one game shown on YouTube. Last year Abbas dominated and is now an NZA player. Not sure if there is anyone in that league. Auckland A playing a NZ Development XI. It seems NZC are doing a good job arranging these games for guys on the fringe of selection. I see that the...

O'Rourke with a wicket off the last ball - nice confidence boost on debut. That catch by Young brings to mind Astle's one against South Africa running back. Is there such a thing as a "hard dismissal"?

    Good return from O'Rourke.

I don't know much about Greenwood. Potentially Jamal Todd or Jacob Cumming could push for a spot this season in this hypothetical side. I've been impressed by Will Clark in Super Smash.

Reminds me Hadlee said in his book, about his time as head selector, CD complained they were getting Oram to bowl so much.

I remember Rixon compared Horne's style to Dean Jones which was a bit of a stretch. I was a fan, but mainly in test cricket. That strike rate of 64 wasn't quite so bad in mid-late 90's era. Better than Andrew Jones, Atherton or Mark Taylor although they did have higher averages.

Stoked that O'Rourke and Clarkson are picked to make their debuts. People on here (@Howsie) have been calling for Clarkson to be picked for years. Great to see it finally happen. And O'Rourke was super impressive on that A tour to Australia. Maybe the start of a long international career across...

That potential under-25 XI is excellent. I didn't realise Greenwood had played a T20 for Jersey! Tim Pringle is another potential name for a wider squad.

    Hard Men of Cricket

Mark Taylor recounts a couple of anecdotes about MacMillan involving Border and Warne from 2 minutes in. A number of South African players from that era seemed pretty tough. Kepler Wessels was apparently a handy boxer and now coaches it in Queensland.

I think it's a fantastic place to take a photo. What I don't understand is why the Netherlands have replaced Canterbury in the Super Smash.
