That's a shocker from Smith who had been good up till now.

Anyway, back to the game, would they declare if Salman gets his ton? Still looks very flat. That one ball which Bashir got to turn was very much a one off.

But he still averages 49.6 despite being mediocre elsewhere. What would Salman average if he played more Tests on seam friendly wickets? Salman also never has to face Indian bowlers either.

Yeah, but Labuschagne has played a significant amount of cricket on different pitches. Salman hasn't.

Not dissimilar pitches to Pakistan though. 45 is surely just par when you play most of the time on these flatbeds. Also, pretty lucky not to be out on 20 here.

Only played 3 matches outside Pakistan or SL though where he averages 28.

England looking a bit frazzled out there, can see the batting falling apart when they finally get a go.

This is brainless, just get all the fielders on the boundaries for first 4 balls then bring them in. It's not rocket science, but he's not doing either. Now it's another lost review I suspect.

Last ball of the over and they didn't bring up the deep cover!! I think they've fallen asleep.

Good ball that from Bashir, the first signs of help in the pitch. Shakeel may wish he'd gone a bit faster as there was a ton there for him a long time before he got that ball.

It was a tough call as the shadow of his foot made it look like he was in contact with the ground when he may not have been. And yes, on this pitch, just give it out and get on with the game FFS.

Would you rather watch them speed through a few overs of spin with fielders all in run saving positions just to get the rate up? That would be pretty tedious.

I think the players with that extra bit of power are going to be key on these pitches (the SA innings kind of showed that too). It's not easy finding the boundary, but she made it look far more straightforward. Of course, she's just very good anyway. Aus v NZ today, the winner will probably top...

26 overs is quite good going for them!! I guess on surfaces like that you need to put in more thought about how you can take wickets, there were some crazy fields by the end of the session. Be amazed if they don't get docked a couple of points in this Test, not that they care.

That's just a nothing session of cricket really. Less than 70 runs on an absolute flatbed is just wasting the pitch when it's at its best. I guess we'll see when England come to bat whether the old school tactic of draining them in the field has worked.

Harsh on Bosch, the Bouchier innings was worse. Never quite felt like enough and the class of NSB got the job done.

It's a fine line between her and Bouchier. But Dunkley went through such an awful spell she was totally unselectable. If I'm being honest, not entirely sure what she's done to get back into the squad.

Win predictor drunk again, has SA at 42%. Can someone plug in the Sharjah version please?

Struggling is being kind, just a horrid innings. I swear some of these English batters are completely devoid of common sense. There's a massive gap down to third man and she's not once considered using it to get off strike.

Watching this new ball swing makes you again question why England are not playing Bell. When you've got one of the world's best seamers, why not play her?
