Aubrey Faulkner vs Shaun Pollock (Tests)

Pollock was the more reliable bowler, Faulkner the more reliable bat. Which is a greater all-rounder?

A Statistical Way of Ranking the All Rounders by their overall numbers

It's a rough real world out there, for those of us who genuinely enjoy mathematics. :(

A Statistical Way of Ranking the All Rounders by their overall numbers

This is a very batting allrounder skewed list, imho. Having Kallis 3, Faulkner 5, Shakib 6 is telling of that (obviously Sobers 1 as well, but most are very happy with Sobers over Imran so no bones there). I've got Shaun Pollock higher on my list, so you can see mine is a bit more skewed...

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

Yeah, that seems about right. Less so if they're a spinner tandem, and a little more if they're solo.

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

So do you universally rate all of these high ER, low SR bowlers in the same average tier a rung lower?

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

Have no problem with the remainder, actually agree the MO is more like Waqar or Donald's (which has it's plusses and minuses). It's the bold which I think is more psychological than objective.

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

The rose colored glasses coming out again. Every bowler has bowled trash at some point or another. Whether it's one paced, predictable, bit innacurate, due to tiredness, or whatever, they've all bowled trash and got hit. We simply don't remember the older ones spells of it as clearly as we do...

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

Murali has a meaningful case for best bowler ever over every top seamer, especially given the post Murali/Warne international Test context (a less strong version of the post 2000s Test openers context). Top level Test spinners seemingly can't perform anymore as an individual match winning...

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

Hadlee, Marshall, McGrath, Steyn, peak Imran, and peak Ambrose. There is little to choose between these bowlers, and they exemplify the absolute top quality of what seam bowling can accomplish. There are reasons to pick any over the others, I like McGrath because of difficult bowling era...

    Dale Steyn vs Muralitharan

It's just the time in your life you watched Steyn, compared to the others. Objectively, he was a force of nature who has everything on his resume you could want.

    All-Time Pakistan XIs - A re-run

His bowling WPM is underwhelming. I'll always take Tony Greig over him, for example, even though their nominal averages are quite similar.

    All-Time Pakistan XIs - A re-run

No better utility batsman / spin all-rounder for Pakistan? That seems strange to me. I feel like Afridi could be more useful as an underrated spinner regardless of the batting, but the stats aren't there in comparison to Mohammed.

    All-Time Pakistan XIs - A re-run

You're right. On second look Yasir's stats weren't nearly as good as I remember. It's a walkover in favor of Saqlain.

    All-Time Pakistan XIs - A re-run

Shoaib Akhtar for last player of this team, or 12th man I guess.
  15. shortpitched713

    All-Time Pakistan XIs - A re-run

Hold up, there wasn't even a shout for Yasir Shah over Saqlain?

Who after a full career remains the worst tailender you have seen?

The answer is clearly the king, Chris Martin (pace). Is interesting though that Jack Saunders more than doubled his Test run total with wickets.

    Unpopular Cricket Opinions

This is the first time I've ever seen such a "unique" analogy used for these topics. And I am the king of stupid analogies. I've analogized between Fifa 12 characters and Gold/Silver/Crystal generation competitive Pokemon. I've done the top 16 World Cup 2014 teams with a corresponding fighter...

*Official* Pakistan in Australia 2024 (white ball tour)

This is the worst run Pakistan side in at least a decade or so. That is saying something. I honestly don't think any batsman in the side other than Babar and Rizwan have merited places in the side. I believe all of the rest are only in from favors and kowtowing in one form or another . The...

    India Doom and Gloom Thread

India right now seems to need 3 spinners at home. Won't get a better chance than now to test out some new options against a tough opponent in a dead rubber test.

    India Doom and Gloom Thread

Well, agreed Indian cricket will be fine. However I think scope of required changes can be bigger than just batting. The old firm of Ashwin and Jadeja being disappointing compared to their usual ATG home level was a big part of these last 2 losses.
