*Official* South Africa in Bangladesh: Two Test Series, 21-25 Oct, 29 Oct-2 Nov 2024

I think it's good for the game when nations like South Africa who hardly play test cricket can get an away win against a team like Bangladesh, who will play 34 during this FTP cycle.

It's usually flat unless it's specifically doctored. It will help us. We need a lot of assistance to make a score, which then gives our fairly adequate bowling attack something to defend. We'll need a lot more out of Miraz though, and probably have to pick another seamer.

Athar, as usual, yammering on about shot selection and "choosing the right ball to hit", claiming it was impetuous batting that cost us a lot of wickets. No, it was mostly piss poor technique from substandard batsman. With a few bad shots as garnish.

Well I see someone has undermined my good idea and put the *Official* tag in the title anyway. Such is the lot of the guy who has the best ideas in the room.

What the **** was that from Shanto? Bizarre attempt at a front foot defence with his legs stretched out like he's doing warrior pose in hatha yoga. Appalling batting.

Based on what I heard at the time from South Africans I knew IRL and online, he was actually the greatest bowler who has ever lived.

I love that quick decision from the third umpire. Didn't waste any time "making sure".

Miraz can look so innocuous. This is where we'll miss Shakib. In his late-career incarnation, he's always challenging them with the way he gets it to dip and keeps them honest with his arm ball. Get Taijul and Nayeem on and watch the difference.

It's a rank turner on which we've lost 6 wickets to seamers. Terrible technique against seam and some skilful bowlling. TIL, it's spelled "skilful", not "skillful". How about that then?

Yeah it's been like that but the top order's techniques against the new ball were club standard as well. It's not surprising in the sense that that's what you expect from Bangladesh's batsmen though.

What parts of the game would you like to see return to modern cricket?

Zinc cream. Especially applied with that distinctive winged pattern. A completely useless thing which I'm sure had no utility at all that you wouldn't just get from normal sunscreen, and cosmetically silly as well, but also actually a notable part of cricket's aesthetic when I was a kid.
