West Bengal/Kolkata is also famously football mad but cricket also had much stronger roots there. I'm not sure what you mean by English coaching? Yeah interesting this, as when I read an old biography of Kepler Wessels, the message seemed to be that cricket was an English game from top to...

Yeah it's been pathetic. Despite some recent high points, they demonstrate no resilience when things go south and let their shoulders drop quickly. That has been my main criticism of Shanto's captaincy, which, to be fair, has produced significantly better results than Shakib's toxic reign.

You've basically nailed it. We have bowlers with enough ability to turn into a genuinely high quality test standard attack, and it's been gratifying watching them improve. Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful are the pick of the pacers and have troubled high quality batsmen and I have faith we'll always...

So there is no doubt that we are ****, but some points to consider: We've beaten every test nation other than SAF and India and are actually following an arc that is not much worse than India and New Zealand over their first 25 years. South Africa arguably performed at minnow level for their...

Wow, Zakir with the single stupidest brain fade I've seen since the last time we played cricket.

Commentator saying Shanto didn't pick the right length for that reverse sweep. Aren't reverse sweeps always premeditated?

Yeah I said "until about five minutes before his first match", which was very obviously hyperbole and phrased in a way that should have made that clear, if you're not obtuse af. But still, that was an amazing(ly sh*t) "gotcha" moment.

    Mundane sightings of high-profile cricketers

Also my family went up to Darwin to watch Bangladesh's in the ODI series against Australia in 2008 and ended up getting an invite to a function held by the local Deshi community after the useless ***** got skittled for 74. The tour manager was an old family friend and he introduced us to...

    Mundane sightings of high-profile cricketers

I saw Ravi Bopara getting throwdowns at the Old Trafford nets. He was focussing on his technique against short pitched bowling and kept telling the chap with the slinger thing to dig them in faster. When he noticed I was filming him, he said, "Boss!" and shook his head at me. And then when I...

We have had four contenders for "worst batsman in the world" in recent years. Three of them guys who would have had no formal batting coaching, and actually next to no experience of organised cricket until their 20s. You made this point about EbaGOAT, who was somewhere around 20 when he took...

He debuted in 2005 so he'd probably be up there with the longest serving post-war cricketers surely.

Nahid Rana is a chap who needs to be protected for 6 balls an over, every over. Not 4 or 5.

Saw the highlights package of the dismissals before and it looked like the only actually impetuous decision was when Joy went at a ball moving away outside off. Otherwise there was someone leaving a ball that would have hit the stumps even if it hadn't jagged in, and a bunch of guys failing to...

I'd almost prefer you did because I don't want us to lose by a record runs margin.

For completion, here's the third of the senior batsmen in Litton Das. Just the 7 scores between 0 and 13 in 12 innings.

Different levels obviously, but I fear for these AEW guys when they're old. Helps that they're not doing it five times a week but they take a lot of back of the head and neck bumps. The aerial moves can't be pleasant for the body either.
