Mitchell has been a specialist death bowler in domestic cricket. Didn't come off here but not a dumb move by any means if we needed to burn an over. Bit of hindsight bias but the suicide single at the start of the over wasn't the smartest. Worth it with genuine tailenders but rashid is a legit...

Was Dan Vettori better than the stats suggest

The proportion of left handed batsmen in club cricket is less than 20% so there isn't much incentive to innovate.

Was Dan Vettori better than the stats suggest

my greatest regret in cricket is not switching to left-arm orthodox. Did it for a bit in social cricket when I had a side strain and fmd it's bowling on easy mode. Jarrod Kimber had a great answer to the question of 'Why don't left arm spinners bowl doosras' which was just 'why would you bother...

Was Dan Vettori better than the stats suggest

one of my favourite niche dan memories is him bowling six straight ones in a row to Warner and him mistiming almost every one due to playing for turn. Think there must be something about his action where he looks like hes putting decent revs on the ball so it's hard for some batsmen to override...

I can't remember what the dominant narrative was back then but surely it was more related to us struggling to find more than two batsmen averaging over 35?

we had 99 problems but a dan wasn't one I remember as a kid basically knowing we were going to get pumped but watching just to see how many annoying runs dan would score with his stupid squirt through backward point

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

This group is absolutely crying out for some strong leadership. Armchair speculation but I reckon there’s a lot of skipping and half-arsing drills for secondary skills at the moment, the rot in fielding and tail end batting standards is desperately apparent

it’s a very stead decision, but I have to admit it’s a nice relief seeing a player of Phillips quality coming in at 7 even though he’ll be moving up the order very soon

being srs for a moment, I think we don’t tend to mention it because to us it’s obvious that aus is a better all round side. We’re just frustrated that the margins have been larger than the actual quality difference.
