    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

They’ve been getting all kinds of stick for their tactics, and I suppose their thinking seems all a bit last ditch to say the least, but apart from excluding Naseem, is their planning for the second Test all that wrong? On paper, England are much the better side, especially in Pakistani...

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Not sure about that, it’s become a meme at this stage, but Bashir was picked because of his release point and potential, especially to get bounce, whatever the pitch does in this Test, I don’t think it’ll provide much bounce (consistently anyway)

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

If the pitch will end up spinning anywhere near as much as Pakistan seem to think, 400 will be a great first innings score, which is funny after 556 wasn’t enough last week!

You have a long and storied tradition of pace bowlers, what are you eating up in the north-east?

Reckon he only played the 3rd Test vs Sri Lanka because it was at the Oval, his speeds both there and in Multan were down on what he is capable of, even if I thought he bowled rather well last week. Sensible call, the guy’s not a robot

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Being dumb here, but I only just realised that this is their squad for the 2nd AND 3rd Tests, I could kind of get on board giving Naseem a rest, but to drop him for the rest of the series is mental

Your second point might be the key one here, the pitch may turn more than the first Test, but you’ve still got to be good enough to take advantage, and Leach was far superior to any Pakistan spinner in the first Test

Where the hell is Naseem Shah? Afridi I get, but Naseem I don’t think was that bad in difficult conditions in the first Test and is their most threatening pacer

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cly6r5dp5lxo Jimmy hinting that Stokes will bowl, with the spinners helping curb his workload

They might have a chance with 16 players tbf

The decline of the part-time medium pacer

I don’t see why military medium can’t make a comeback in limited overs cricket where the slower pace in theory makes it harder to get away, someone like Paul Collingwood (though I guess he was a borderline all-rounder in white ball cricket) who could swing the ball could be particularly useful

Be surprised if the team isn’t this Crawley Duckett Pope Root Brook Stokes Smith Carse Atkinson Leach Bashir

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Having the 2 frontline spinners plus Root would reduce the workload on Stokes even more, especially on what promises to be a friendlier wicket for spinners (could hardly have been less friendly for most of the first Test!). Yes, he’s bowling in the nets and looking good, but it’s a tough ask to...

Said in jest, but this commentary on Kuldeep’s success against England made me laugh https://x.com/Final_Word_Pod/status/1765737496552382766/mediaViewer?currentTweet=1765737496552382766&currentTweetUser=Final_Word_Pod

Seeing a few people online suggesting Stokes should come in for Bashir, why? I get he had a poor first Test, but the conditions should be much more to his favour in this Test, and with unfriendly conditions for seamers, we need to give them as much rest as we can

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

If Stokes is ready to bowl though, happy days, because he can come in for Woakes and simultaneously strengthen the batting and the bowling

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Would be surprised if Stokes were picked in the second Test as a bowler, we’ll need him to bowl a lot of overs which is a big ask considering he’s not been able to bowl at all

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

How much of that is because England have a genuine weakness against left-arm wrist spin, and how much is because Kuldeep is just really good?

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Would make sense considering Twitter is saying that they’re playing on the same pitch in the hope it will spin

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

I mean that is 18 innings without a 50, 9 of which have been at home, which is pretty damning, I don’t think even England would keep a batter who has failed to perform for so long. Who comes in for him, Huraira? His FC average is very juicy
