***Official***THE FINAL- India vs Australia - November 19th - Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad (D/N)

It was pretty poor in that once Labuschagne and Head got in, the result was never really in doubt. In the end the Aussies won at a canter and the game petered out. As for the whole tournament, the top 4 was pretty much done and dusted with a few games to spare. Neither of the semi finals...

***Official***THE FINAL- India vs Australia - November 19th - Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad (D/N)

Pretty poor final which was fitting for a pretty poor WC, unless you're an Aussie. India have been head and shoulders the best team, but when it really mattered, they couldn't handle the pressure. Under performed with the bat, and didn't bowl well enough in the 1st ten overs.

Brilliant from Bumrah - bit surprised Smith didn't review it though

Such a poor shot from Marsh - no foot movement at all, just a cross batted swipe.

11 extras already. Aussies only conceded 12 in the whole innings - could be the difference

Who are the neutrals supporting in the final?

The England football manager is one of the most difficult coaching jobs in sport. Past managers have been not just criticised but mocked and ridiculed in the media. Even our most successful manager, Sir Alf, was hounded out in near disgrace after we failed to qualify in 1974. We lost out to...

Fair point mate - I don't know what came over me - I bloody hate this Aussie side 👍

Who are the neutrals supporting in the final?

India for me for 2 reasons. Firstly, they've been the best team in the WC and deserve to win it. Also I've always had a soft spot for them. When I first watched cricket in the late 1970s, India were pretty poor - nothing like the powerhouse they are today. They had no quick bowlers, relied...

***Official***THE FINAL- India vs Australia - November 19th - Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad (D/N)

Whilst India will rightly start as favourites, Australia are a very dangerous opponent. They have 3 batsmen - Head, Maxwell and Marsh who can take any attack apart. They are well suppprted by Warner, Smith and Labuschagne. Their lower order is a bit weak though but so too is India's. The...

Hain has a fine 50 over record and certainly should be in the mix. I would have him in the ODI squad for the W Indies - we need to look at all our options and I'm sure he'll get his chance.

    ***Official***Semi-Final #1- India vs New Zealand - November 15th - Wankhede, Mumbai (D/N)

This is brilliant batting from Rohit. As captain leading from the front and taking the pressure off his team.

It's a fair point you make - we very much did separate the test team from the ODI one. We tended to try successful ODI players in tests - Roy, Hales, Morgan, Buttler - and it never really worked. I still think that that we should go down the test batsmen route in ODIs at the top of the order...

    ***Official***Semi-Final #1- India vs New Zealand - November 15th - Wankhede, Mumbai (D/N)

Mixed feelings about this one. India deserve to win the WC - they've been the best team by a distance. However, I've always liked the Kiwis, they play the game in the right way and for such a small country punch well above their weight. Plus they deserve to win a WC. But my over-riding wish...

    Assessment of the World Cup

I don't think the format of 1 big group works that well. As a cricket lover I do like the fact there are so many games to watch but it's doesn't provide enough excitement. Having only 3 knockout games doesn't sit right with me. Also there's not enough benefit for topping the table. If...

England players and selection discussion thread

If you look at the top order of the best ODI teams, it tends to be test players that fill those slots. Sometimes it may be a middle order batman in test who opens or bats at 3 but its very rarely the specialist ODI players - they tend to bat at 5, 6 and 7. So in England's brave new ODI world...

England players and selection discussion thread

These 'middling' test players have helped England to a remarkable turnaround in our test fortunes, winning test after test. And of course we gave the world champions a severe test this summer with only 3 days rain in Manchester stopping us from beating them.

I'm not so sure that there was as much wrong with our WC squad as people think. The main problem was our lack of preparation rather than the actual squad. Buttler was probably the biggest disappointment and there isn't one person who wouldn't have picked him. Going forward I think Crawley...

Pretty happy with the squads. The ODI squad has excluded anyone who isn't likely to be involved at the next WC whilst the T20 squad is obviously with next year's WC in mind.

Which Cricket World Cup Was the Least Interesting?

2015 for me. It was in Australia and NZ, Australia won and England were a shambles - it couldn't have been worse

3 out of the 4 Semi Finalists from 2019 are in the 2023 semi finals

Obviously India will start favourites and rightly so. They've comfortably been the best team in the tournament. But NZ are more than capable of winning this. It's vital they get off to a good start in the match. If India got on top early on, with the crowd behind them, they can steamroll any...
