Sobers’ peer rating doesn’t count.

But the other guys rating does count.

And here I thought you respected Sobers.
I see you conveniently read what you wanted to. I said there were multiple players Sobers called the greatest, also he's also a smart man. He knew where he was.

I also said, that's why it's based on consensus and not on one individual.

And I'll also repeat what I said after. We can do a comparison of how many players have called either the best they've seen or the best opener ever.

Barry wins that hands down.

Try gaslighting someone else.

Lara could dominate the bowling in a way Sunny couldn't and when he was absolutely on it, come up with special innings/series that Sunny didn't.
Saying all this, I don't have them in separate tiers but if I do someday, that would be my argument.
I arrange my ratings slightly differently.

Bradman

Then the best after Bradman, and even that's divided into two groups. The no argument guys, and the ones who are there, but there's an argument either way.

Then the undisputed ATGs, but without the argument to be best after Bradman, or was never the best in their era.

Bradman
Hobbs | Tendulkar | Richards | Sobers
Smith | Lara | Hutton
Richards
Hammond | Gavaskar | Chappell | Headley | Ponting | Kallis | Pollock
Border | Dravid | Sangakkara | Waugh | Root

Bradman

Hobbs

Sachin
Viv
Hutton
Sobers

Smith
Lara

Hammond
Gavaskar
Headley
Sutcliffe

Pollock
Chappell

Root
Ponting
Kallis
Sangakkara

is how I'd divide the ATG batters.
Not that different from mine.

Don't have Bradman that far ahead, but I know I'm on my own on that one.

I always remember what Peterhrt says that up to the early 60's Hobbs was basically seen to be on par with Bradman and that was the general consensus.

So if we are going gaps and separating Hobbs, I'm inclined to then include him in the Don's. Behind him yes, but in the same tier.

Someone needs to do Hutton vs Sobers tier... Need to see who's more delusional, you or I on that one.

I think it was done and Sobers won in a landslide, it's fine for me as losing to Garfield Sobers is nothing to be ashamed about, I think Hutton matched/beat Viv and Smith which is good enough for me, Hutton being in the BAB category is kind of a hill I'm willing to die on.

Border in 1984 WI is better than anything Chappell ever dreamt of doing. He toured a quite weak WI in Tests, WSC should be rated separately. The only strong country his away Test record can be taken at face value is England, and 40 is quite moderate given reputation; Border did 64. Border also played for 5 more years and almost double the games. And last but not least, peer ratings sucks ass.
Why is WSC rated differently?

He's in mine as well, just in the 2nd sub- tier and behind Smith and Lara purely due to s/r.

Border ain't better than Chappell, let's get real here.
You ****ing what? Look at Border's away average and the breadth of conditions he made runs in. GC was an all timer in his own right but he picked and chose his tours and played for half the number of tests TOTAB did.

Border uber alles.
