I just noticed the NSW vs Tas game next week is a pink ball game. They'd want Starc to play wouldn't they (and/or Hazlewood or Cummins) seeing it's a must win game to get into the shield final

Virtually no chance that they’ll play

Re Boland, he still was in the wickets. playing for the state side, he doesnt have the support of Cummins and Starc playing for VIC.
Hes a first choice seamer for Australia now for Tests.

Hazlewood is on extended injury break(calf, and now hip) and didnt play any Shield games; pretty much Boland is a shoe in, he was a match winner for the last WTC v India.

O'Neill and Morris could be a decent Starc/Hazelwood replacement if you keep them fit.
Boland is also 35. Australia will plummet down the rankings once the high ranking senior players over age 34 retire (Hazlewood 34, Boland 35, Starc 35, Steve Smith 35, Lyon 37, Khawaja 38). The replacements arent good enough or not fit enough and also several are old e.g. Neser who is 34 as well...We are potentially looking at a Windies style drop. Windies are awful nearly 20-30 years after all their key players retired. Even SAffers had Rabada and a few quicks(e.g. Ngidi, Nortje, Jansen) coming up when all their greats retired in one go. We have nobody.

Glad to see Austin Waugh is playing the 2nd XI game for NSW vs South Australia today.

I hadn't realised he moved to a new club (Randwick) where he's hit 4 centuries this season.

Spent a couple of years out of cricket entirely iirc

Can't say I ever thought he particularly stood out from what I remember of his U19 days, but still it is good to see him back playing and from what I have heard really enjoying his cricket. Must have been a hell of a lot of pressure on him with the family history in the sport

I couldnt figure out why Austin Waugh is batting #7 when he's an opener, until I saw Charlie Anderson bowled but didn't bat.

I didn't realise the 2nd XI comp had the play 12, sub one out silliness. I thought they were trying to most replicate a shield match and having Waugh subbed in to bat for your #11 doesn't do that

I'm a big fan of Nic Maddinson but he'd have to get dropped for the last shield match wouldn't he?

Who to replace him with though. Dan Hughes is 36 and made only 8 & 4 in the current 2nd XI game. Has Nikataris got form behind him as the other opener in 2nd XI (made 38 & 27 in a low scoring game)

Edit: Maddinson dropped, Nikataris has replaced him in NSW squad

Now if you're going to opt out that's the way to do it 😀

"Khawaja has opted to fly from Brisbane to Melbourne to spend the weekend watching the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix instead of playing the Shield game at Karen Rolton Oval"

So the Sheffield Shield final in 12 days could very well be SA vs Qld at the Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.

How boring, game starting tomorrow is SA vs Qld at the Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide

Big news with David Moody in the squad for Vic. The prodigal son will return to the Shield.
Think he'll almost certainly play too, considering how the Vic's seem to be allergic to playing 6 specialist bats of recent times

As for the Shield final thing, obviously it's a bit disappointing it isn't being played at Adelaide Oval but it always seemed a long shot to me in the first place
