8th Match - Afghanistan v England

Third_Man

First Class Debutant
Irrespective of today's result. England are on a par with Afghanistan and well behind Australia in the 50 over format.

The majority of the team are on ECB contracts. The ECB have the power to say when and where they all play their cricket. They could easily arrange for them to play more 50 over games to get some valuable practice in. There is even no need to change the shape of the English domestic season. Currently they allocate the England contracted players to a franchise each August as a gift and they are content to learn to contribute cameos. They could instead allocate them each to a First Class County and have them play in the Metro Bank 50 over One Day Cup instead to re-learn some skills they are clearly losing.

Lifelong fan of the game but I'm rapidly losing interest especially when the county game is sacked off in the next few years.

The "custodians" don't care so why should I?

Whatever it takes!!!
Congrats Afghanistan!

Great game of cricket.

Don't understand all the "England choked" comments. They were behind for almost the entire run chase. Not every close loss = a choke.
I think they played really well. Afghanistan just played better IMO. There is no choke involved here considering I had Afg as favorites once they racked up 325.

This is unacceptable. England had made so much progress in LOI post 2015 and reached a peak with the WC, T20WC etc. The gameplan has fallen into disarray.

Ian Smith needs to stop being so patronizing towards the Afghans by calling it a 'historic day' for them

They beat higher ranked teams pretty regularly now
It is their first win v England, so yeah, it does kinda fit the historic mould. First time won't happen ever again.
