MAN WHAT A JOB England have done justifying themselves as former odi world cup champions since 2019

GREAT JOB

it's almost like gifting someone a world cup for hitting a couple more 4's isn't the right thing to do...
Like it or not England were the best white ball side in the world back then, how we won the trophy doesn't matter. No doubting they've made a pigs ear of it since though.

Sounds like Buttler will quit, but who can take over? Only possible names really are Brook or Curran.
Yeah I was thinking earlier after Buttler's interview and my first thought was that I'd like it to be Curran. I dunno how likely that is after he's been left out of recent squads but he still seems the best qualified.

Brook is perhaps the more obvious "succession" pick, but 1) I don't think continuity is a big positive right now and 2) I'd rather he concentrated on his batting (and especially his Test batting). I guess 3) he's a lot less experienced than Curran too.

I don’t know if he has any experience like the other two, but perhaps the only other player assured of a place is Duckett. Although, judged on some of the rubbish he talked in India, he may not be the sharpest tool.

I’d go Brook, it might actually be good for him to think more about in game strategy.

similar to in 2005 ECB simply not interested or don't understand in the costs and requirements of staying at the top compared to getting there.
Same across the board. Rugby after the WC win, all those sports we were suddenly good at in 2012, women's cricket and football. All except the rugby were beneficiaries of a focus on winning at home with the eyes of the world on the UK, then that was considered enough.

Rugby and cricket have become largely private school only sports. Quite simply, not enough kids are playing them (just 6% at these schools).

Whether the ECB’s 100 windfall will be invested wisely seems doubtful.

Not convinced about Brook as captain. Duckett is the second best bat in this side, but whether he has the maturity or game smarts, I'm not sure. I'm all for a curve ball captain from outside the current side.

Tbf, in the case of Olympic sports this is a pretty common occurrence because of the influx of govt funding in the lead up to a home Games, which is then turned off afterwards.

Duckett didn’t even come down to the nets to help out the junior rep players when he was the OS pro at parramatta. WAC. Can’t see him going out of his way to help players in his own side if he was made skipper

James Vince. I actually sort of mean it as well.
