Suggestions for improving Cricket Web

I've noticed the reason a fair percentage of new members join up is to ask a question (about a signature on a bat, or a question about how to improve their bowling action or whatever) so I would also be reluctant to stop them from starting a thread. Maybe a limit of 3 threads started in your first 50 posts, but that would probably be tricky admin behind the scenes.
Not sure if this is possible to implement, but this is how it's done on another forum I'm on. They have a Newbie section where new members can post what they like and create threads if they want to. In the main sections, they are restricted to only 3 posts per day and cannot create threads. This all changes once they become full members, which is achieved when they receive 10 likes or reacts from mods.

This protects the main section from spam bots and makes it harder for the multi-accounts to get around the system. It also doesn't handicap genuine users who want to ask a relevant question. While it does inconvenience new users slightly, it fixes far more problems than it solves.

If you put Carty on ignore then you can avoid them all. I'm wondering if they're all multi's of him anyway. He goes missing and another turns up.....

Some rules of engagement need to be set for these blow-ins. One thread for Durham fans = fine. A second? Borderline. A third about a pre-season fixture? Get bent.
Just have mods merge them all into one thread and then ignore the thread starter so it all disappears 😀

Not a bad idea and I can see that working for some sites.

I suppose the main point is we've had the CW forum for 24 years now. Are we thinking of changing something here that isn't really fundamentally broken?

I think preventing new members from making new threads in Cricket Chat is a reasonable idea. We're going to continue to struggle to actually attract good new members at the same rate in the social media age though, so preventing them from replying seems a bit much to me. I'd love for this forum to live on for generations and not just be a place for this current group of regulars to chat until we all die.
