Konstas could do well - though I doubt he'd have much success against these SL spinners - but there is a long record of BBL breakout stars doing sweet ****-all at the international level. Short and, to a lesser extent, JFM are just the latest examples of such. So that should be kept in mind with Owen as well.

Pakistani pitches are absolute roads. This team should be fine for CT but the bowling attack is largely second string so I don't know if they have enough to win the entire thing.

i'm way out of the loop. someone explain this fraser-mcgurk guy? is he a vibes pick ala crawley? as his domestic record is shite.
As terrible as Crawley has been, sometimes he does give the impression that he not only belongs in the international level but should actually do well

You don't get that with JFM

JFM scored the fastest list A 100 in history and Victoria punted him

He scored a very quick hundred for SA and they don’t want him

Australia: he’s ours

JFM isn't even a BBL star. He's scored three fifties in 44 matches and averages 18.56 @127. That's crap.

Agree i saw him in a few matches .he mixes in the odd fast score with a bunch of failures. thats not consistent. At Intl level on overseas decks, hes pretty much a write off.

a Measure of his true cricket prowess is his FC ability/scores. Hes diabolical in FC. Hes barely even in the 2nd XI for VIC. ATleast Mitch Owen is in the 1st XI for his state side TAS and averages a solid 30 in FC. thats not terrible.

McGurk averages 19 in FC and surprisingly only 21 in T20s and only 20 in LIST A. Its diabiolical. It means he isnt talented at all. Why picked for Australia? All these stats and information are available to selectors prior to picking him.

Prior great sides, everyone averaged around 40-55 for FC, atleast 30-50 for LIST A(no T20 back then more LIST A), and were picked for Australia. All the greats- Bevan, Hussey, Martyn, Ponting, Hayden, Langer, Waughs, Katich all played years of FC/ LIST A(when available) with those high averages.

You had to earn your call up, not average 19-20 and get a call up for Australia.

Since his honeymoon phase in the IPL, Jake Fraser-McGurk has struggled to score runs everywhere.

In the Major Cricket League 2024, he managed to score only 81 runs in 7 innings at an average of less than 12.

In T20Is, he has scored only 113 runs in 7 innings at an average of 16.

In the BBL 2024-25, he scored only 188 runs in 10 innings, with 95 of those coming in a single innings.

In ODIs, he has scored only 98 runs in 7 innings at an average of 14.

He's pretty much been awful everywhere before and after that 1 IPL. He's not at the level of domestic cricket standard, and he never was, let alone international standard.

He's a slightly above average grade cricketer that's decided to play an extremely high risk style of cricket that has come off a few times and as a result he's frauded his way into the spotlight. IMO there are dozens of grade cricketers in every state that could do the exact same, or better, if they decided to play the same style of cricket.

he's literally the fat **** with great hand eye who scores 70* against you with three drops, and then you check his mycricket and you see he hasn't cleared twelve against any other team during the season

Can only assume (& this is a long bow) that the selectors hope that the pitches in Pakistan will be so flat that he can take advantage

However, if that’s the case then just promote Maxi up the order as he’s better in every respect

Anyway, my major issue with JFM is not that he’s a filthy slogger who gives himself very little chance of being consistently successful

It’s that I am yet to see anything from him to suggest that his technique is good enough to play in any other way
