In relation to Sachin, considering the other issues, it is relatively underwhelming.
Sachin's away record without Bangladesh

7885 @ 51.5, 47.2 RPI, 7 innings per hundred

Sobers's away record

3957 @ 50.7, 46.5 RPI, 7.08 innings per hundred.

I'm not seeing it.

India were quite on the weaker side of things and he did averaged 111 here

Batting position, longevity, better away record
Batting position sure, but at the end of the day he performed at his best at 4 as well. So there's nothing saying that he could perform at that position.

Longevity argument is ridiculous, one played for 20 years, that's more than enough. Especially considering his bowling work load, no please. Anything approaching 20 years is fine, 18 even.

His overall away record is dragged down by the anomaly that is NZ, outside of that he was excellent. Especially where it matters, Australia and England.

The only area that Sachin gets the edge is as I said, batting position, and that's splitting hairs at the very best.

Sobers has iconic innings vs all the ATGs of his era.

Cook played quite a few more than Sobers iirc
I know you're trying to be stupid and prove a point that doesn't exist.

But Hadlee and Marshall actually played in the same era and one had a crazy concentrated schedule, most overseas as well.

Again, what's your point.

People are disproportionately focussed on minnows, when hardly anyone plays more than a few games against them. It's 3.5% of Sachins games for Bangers. 40% of Sobers games were against the poor sides from his era. The weren't Bangers weak, but the cumularive impact on quality of playing that many is going to be much greater.

That Hadlee played longer and you brought a silly point.

er, the 90s England and Pre Murali Sri Lanka sides were weak as well, doesn't mean we can discard those performances imo

Batting position, home featherbeads with a relatively underwhelming away record, and playing a disproportionate proportion of career against B tier teams.

Batting position I covered, but to repeat, he also had success at 3 and especially 4, not to add a little dabbling at opening.

He didn't drop down because he was hiding, it's because he was also bowling the most overs for the team as well.

Sachin had home pitches that were also flat and played through the flat pitch era.

India may have struggled as a batting unit, but had an above test standard spin attack.

And he failed vs NZ, so no help to him there.

Not to mention how he cares vs the best teams in the world in the ROW tests.

Garry more than proved himself vs the best. Teams and bowlers.

tbh outside of here I see the perception of Sachin going down instead of up, if he loses the record, I think that'd pace it up.
