eh that was one freak Test match. They smashed them the one previous, and the 2 the previous year. Not quite the same thing as India losing 3-0 to NZ for example. If Aus and WI hypothetically play 50 Tests right now Aus win 49 of them
You don't even have to go there because England lost a whole series to WI in their last tour there. Probably the one before that as well. And the one before

England's last tour to West Indies in 2022. Series result WI won 1 - 0 bwhahahaha. Get something right for once ffs
England beat WI 3-0 at home last Summer in this WTC cycle, a direct comparison to the Aussie 1-1 draw.

If the right conditions are available, (a seam friendly day nighter for example), then no one is guaranteed a victory.

Gob manages to understand a point being made about once a week, and that's usually when single syllable words are used for him.

Yes let's all conveniently ignore the embarrassment of losing test serieses to WI over and over again

Yes no ones guaranteed a victory in such conditions but there is a guaranteed loser and that is England. Its well documented that Bazball plonkers can't play anything that seams, bounces over Penis height or spins. These aren't my words but Micheal Vaughan's

Why are you reverting to personal attacks now? If you can't argue the points instead of attacking the poster, this online world is not for you my friend

I'm struggling to believe anyone could write these two things within 10 mins of each other, but credit to you.

I was originally pointing out that in this WTC Cycle, the logic of some of the results has been farcical.

Hmm looking very hard in to where 'this WTC' is mentioned below. Maybe you 'wrongly' thought you did?
Australia couldn't beat W Indies, unlike pretty much everybody else. Hmm

There is no dominant team at the mo, Australia are probably the best, but you wouldn't put your mortgage on them in any given Test like you would some of the previous Number 1's.

It's not a personal insult if the insinuation is correct though
So my comment was not a personal insult then, thanks for clearing that up.

I don't think I needed to. Surely, England beating WI 3-0 at home last Summer was a fair enough comparison to Aus failing to beat WI in a similar situation. But this has turned into something far more than it was ever meant to be, so let's move on.

When questions along these lines have been asked in the past, I have always answered ‘No’, whichever country it was asked about.

I have answered ‘Yes’ on this occasion though as England is one of the only (three?) countries where test cricket is still sufficiently popular for it to be played profitably and at its former volume. As things stand, cricket can ill afford one of the big 3 to weaken and for interest there in test cricket to decline.
I don't necessarily agree with the logic that you infer which is "cricket needs strong test cricket", "test cricket needs strong England", "therefore cricket needs strong England". I think in the modern era the first of those statements doesn't hold up.

But this thread has since got silly so maybe a discussion for another time.

Well the England U19 team have just won the 2nd test by 10 wickets v SA, so all hope not lost there and some U19 eligible players were picked for the game v Australia A thus diluting the U19 team quality as well as sending some guys who probably weren't ready for A team level, including Rocky Flintoff.

This past three days saw the following...

Eng W lost by an innings
Eng Lions lost by an innings
Eng W U19 lost by 9 wickets in the WC SF
Eng M suffered the second worst T20I defeat by a full member nation

has world cricket out grown England? does it require a nation that continues to refuse to get a climate?
yes it needs a strong England, We improve and enhance it

The best sides in my time of watching cricket -

1. Aus mid 90s - mid 00s
2. RSA late 00s - mid 2010s
3. India mid 2010s - early 2020s

These were the only clear "best" test sides I feel. England under Strauss were this for a while but not for too long unfortunately.
Australia in 2001-2007 were the best team in Team Sport ever IMO. And England managed to beat them in 2005 (which was the sweetest victory of all time)
