Australia had big Merv, McDermott and Alderman, not ATG but definitely not poor. England had Willis.

Tendulkar was better by virtue of having another peak from 2007/8 to early 2011 where he rose in rankings to become no.1 in the world again. Viv by mid 80s was no.1 in name not really runs or rankings. Yes even with flat pitches Tendulkar still averaged 60 odd then.

Personally don't see that's there's much to separate the likes of Tendulkar, Richards, Sobers and Hobbs, the only argument I make against Hobbs is era.

Lara, Smith and Hutton are a hair behind, but Smith has time to elevate himself into that conversation.

One of reason i rate sachin/lara ahead of punter/kallis/dravid/sanga is that they averaged 50 in 90s which was rare given quality of bowling back then. Post war top 5 imo
