Marshall has the following qualifiers:Marshall suffers from the longevity argument. Most of his success came in a relatively short span of time(83-91). Like a more flamboyant Ken Barrington.
- Relatively shorter career compared to Hadlee and McGrath and shorter peak worldclass period
- Only really played one strong batting lineup in his prime, India 83. The Aussie, Pak and Eng batting sides he played were generally poorer to the ones Hadlee bowled against early 80s, late 70s.
- Thanks to his ATG bowling support, it helped shield his stats especially average and SR, in particular in his late career phase when he was 4th seamer whereas McGrath and Hadlee led their attack right to the end and didn't need to hide.
