**Official** English Football Season 2024/25

What is the point of a 3pm Sunday game (see last weekend at Sunderland FFS) which clashes with Prem matches and makes it a nightmare for travelling fans? Why do we need 3 different games on a Saturday lunchtime?
The extra £25 or whatever that Sky pay per game.

Same up here, we get shite kick-off times because we're secondary to England. I think the other thing that made the last Old Firm game feel a bit special was it was actually a 3pm kick-off (albeit on a Thursday) which meant the 2nd half was played under lights. First time we've played them under lights at home for 25 years.

Isn't that more because playing it later allows for too much pre-match drinking time?

Quite happy watching Sunderland win every Sunday at 3pm personally or come that anytime anywhere

Though tomorrow cup game will have the lowest crowd of the season

we are in the process of signing a lad from Roma called Enzo Le Fee. He’s been involved in 2 €20 million deals in the last two years

It's just like any other form of entertainment imo. You'll always get burned out with it after a while, especially after an intense period of engagement, and then likely come back after a cool off period of a few years or whatever. And ultimately, as good as football is (or at least can be), it's just a bunch of grown men in silly outfits running around swatting a little ball about.

Haha this is one of the reasons it is so good. It is fundamentally a ridiculous pursuit yet one you can massively invest in.

Yeah to be honest it's no more, or less, ridiculous than most of my other interests or pastimes, many of which would sound equally ridiculous/foolish when described literally.

Yeah I've hardly watched any football this year. Mix of:

1. United being terrible. They've been terrible for 12 years and I was still following football very closely for almost all of that time, so it's not just this. But it's also true that if they suddenly became good again I would watch a lot more.
There's a lot to be said for this. I found it near impossible to motivate myself to watch LFC games after we sold Torres in 2011. That transfer destroyed me. It was around then I also stopped playing and I really missed it, so that played a part I think.

It wasn't until 13/14 that Suarez reenergized my love of the sport. I was watching quite a bit of La Liga at the time as I lived in Madrid, I used to love going to the Calderon to watch Atleti just as a social outing. Spanish fans are a whole different level of passion so it was a great time to get back into it.

When Klopp took over I was living in Argentina and again it was everywhere. I don't think I've missed a minute of Liverpool play since (aside from an early round league cup game or two). Admittedly, I lost a bit of interest the season VVD got injured too - we were awful.

Living in Aus now, the 1am-4am wake up on a Monday morning before work is extremely hard to justify for prem games but I do it anyway. Champions League usually kicks off around 5am so bit more palatable. I tune into most Arsenal and City games, but the rest of the league I watch infrequently. Not many of my mates here like football (it's also rarely on in bars etc) so naturally there's less proximity than there was in Europe/SA.

I tend to agree with the general sentiment of your post though - football is dying a very slow death. VAR annoys me to no end but maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy, lol.

The last couple of pages look like I've created half a dozen multis.

But yes, I think it's just an ageing thing to a large extent, especially when more important life events happen. And the things that grab us in our formative years tend to be the ones that stick with us. I don't objectively believe that football and cricket were better in the 1970s, but they will always have a special place in my heart. Music too, I suppose. And it was reassuring to see that I'm not the only fair weather supporter of my football team, as I took virtually no interest in the years between 'The Team of the 80s' being relegated in 1981 and Coppell's side being promoted in 1989. Ditto the 1990's after they were relegated in 1993 and kept being relegated after each promotion for a while.

Moyes back at Everton. One of my favourite ever Shrewsbury defenders back in the day. Good luck to him, he's gonna need it though his 2nd spell at West Ham was a huge success.

Soucek to Everton if he doesn't fit into Potters plans?

@Skipper Pup Chiesa should play lot more for us if not for injuries. Looks good
He was bright but he needs to stay available. Will be important for us to give Mo a rest and I don't want to see Harvey out wide. I'm actually starting to think Harvey might be gone by the end of January.

I would put good money that Soucek is one of the first out the door. Would make a lot of sense if he went to Everton. I'm excited to see Potter with West Ham's attack, they have some gems that he will elevate to the next level.

Heard a ridiculous stat yesterday lunchtime that Brentford had never beaten Plymouth in the FA Cup after 7 previous attempts. Well it's now 8, talk about a bogey side!!

We were knocked out in extra time but the main priority is trying to go to the premier league

with Leeds and Burnley going through, the extra games may affect them , whilst we now have a clear route to the last 20 games

must admit at times when we were getting hammered in league one, I never thought we would be as close as we are now ever again

I think the turning point was hammering Tranmere in the pizza cup final. @GIMH
