Kumble bowled with pace too. And we all know Lara had trouble against pace.
This could also explain Lara away vs home record difference.Early 90s and 2000s WI pitch became more spin friendly than late 90s.Late 90s WI pitch condition was bad and created unpredictable movement of ball

Warne only became decent in India by his last tour when he bowled somewhat conservatively and flat.
Both Warne & Murali were poor in India

Tests : 34 wickets in 9 Tests @ 43. 1 5-Fer

ODIs(vs India) : 7 wickets in 8 ODIs @ 52.

Tests : 40 wickets in 11 Tests @ 45. 2 5-Fer.

ODIs(vs India) : 15 wickets in 14 ODIs @ 35.

I feel in an all time great team a four pronged pace attack would not be a wrong choice even it is unpopular
The counter would be that the marginal return of a fourth pacer to deliver more after the three worldclass pacers is less than the spinner doing the tasks of those scenarios when it works to their strength (marathon spells, overrate issue, spinning wickets or 3rd/4th innings performances).

And it's not like all ATG bats were great against spin.
