I also feel the same about England with Gough and Caddick. Quite a handful in English conditions but 90s and early 2000s England just gets written off.

Fraser and Gough were genuinely very good bowlers. Don't rate Caddick much but he had his moments guess.

This could also explain Lara away vs home record difference.Early 90s and 2000s WI pitch became more spin friendly than late 90s.Late 90s WI pitch condition was bad and created unpredictable movement of ball

The counter would be that the marginal return of a fourth pacer to deliver more after the three worldclass pacers is less than the spinner doing the tasks of those scenarios when it works to their strength (marathon spells, overrate issue, spinning wickets or 3rd/4th innings performances).

And it's not like all ATG bats were great against spin.
