I think they just ****ed it up. @Burgey is right that these people are basically just glorified gardeners and sometimes aren't very good at producing what they want to.
There's a claim that part of is that they're trying out new grass and haven't gotten in right yet but like... that doesn't speak well to their competence either.

Listening now, and Khawaja brought up the obvious point: if both teams decide slogging is better than batting properly, that's a bad pitch.

I thought he might have got one when I dobbed him in for something to the whole mod cohort years ago but they may not have actioned it #favouritism
I probably just denied it and said you were making it up.

I checked and I did get my one infraction for saying "stop trolling you sad ****" to you though.

This was like the anti- last year’s pitch. That thing was so slow and turgid there were balls bouncing in front of the keeper on day one and you had short covers and midwicket in during the first session because it was so hard to score in front of the wicket. There’s been some stupid over compensation this year.

So, for sri lanka are we looking at
1.Usman
2.Konstas
3.Marnus
4.Smith
5.Head
6.Webster
7.Carey
8.Starc/Jhye?
9.Murphy
10.Lyon
11.Boland

Usman had a bad BGT but I think in retrospect he looked fine when he wasn't facing bumrah. I don't think he's the usman of 12 months ago but I reckon he can do a Late career Warner "Average ~35" holding role while we wait for somoene to kick on or one of the older openers to find form again. Mcsweeney could replace marnus I guess? Marnus is still on thin ice but I don't think mcsweeney is a #3 at test level, more 4/5.

Yeah I think that was the incident in question. I feigned outrage at a mod so addressing a member in good standing and the chumps fell for it. Gold.

iirc I had to repeatedly harass them for a few days to get it over the line. Or maybe that was some other incident with someone else.

Either way, happy times :)

I remember the 'new grass' excuse after the Tassie Shield match too.

I don't want highways and I'm worried too much criticism means they'll go back to them, but what they're doing right now clearly isn't working. They need to find a way to have a bit more pace in the pitch while having a less cracked, less grassy surface. Giving something to the spinners wouldn't hurt either.

I was never gonna get banned so it didn't really phase me, lol.

Apparently Usman tore into the pitch on ABC radio after the game. Hopefully the catalyst for some change.
What did he say?

I mean the deck wasn't a minefield..it had a lot of life in it. Besides....do we really want decks prepared as roads for Test cricket? How boring. Good Test of batsman's technique and temperament.

It's like batting in India - big turning decks. Again a good Test for the batsman. That's what world Test cricket should be about.

We've had tons of bowler friendly decks in the last few years, claiming this is just spoiled batsman complaining about a spicy pitch for once is stupid.

If this isn't a minefield what would you call one? If there was a bit more pace in the deck on day one it would have outright been unsafe to play on. Consistent seam movement + inconsistent bounce that got worse as the game got on and the deck quickening up on day 2 + 3.
