I still don't really see the point of Sundar in the side for this series but I suppose they're lacking better options at the moment. Also disappointed that Jurel wasn't given more of an opportunity.

He just faced over 200 balls in Melbourne.
He was also the leading wicket taker for the series his team lost 3-0 despite only playing 2 of the matches.

Batting. hes hit 88 runs @ 29.33 so far which is reasonable with a HS of 50. Rohit, by comparison, is hitting at under 7 average.

If India hadn't lost at MCG and it was 1-1, Rohit would still be captaining and playing and there'd be no changes to the attack. India would find themselves in trouble once again in the final test just like the 2nd, 3rd and 4th tests. Rohit alone costs India many runs with his clueless defensive captaincy and zero batting. Replacing him is like adding 2 decent players to the side. And I expect India to have the upper hand in this test if they go in with this-

Jaiswal
Rahul
Gill
Kohli
Pant/Jurel
Reddy
Jadeja/Sundar
Rana
Bumrah
Siraj
Prasidh

In order to win, India need 4 proper fast bowlers on these pace friendly surfaces. The team composition alone will decide India's fate and show us whether they learnt anything from the last 3 tests. If India had a 4th pacer, no way Aus gets anywhere close to 474 in the first inns or 240 in the 2nd inns. India had to play an imbalanced side (more batters & fewer pacers) to compensate for Rohit's lack of batting.

yep theyve kept pant as they should. SCG is a good ground for Pant. Jurel isnt that great, failed twice in Perth.. rohit just dropped himself to save face. thats effectively the end of Rohit sharmas test career

Let this be a lesson to all cricketers who decide to attend the birth of their child instead of doing their job
wouldve been ok if they actually played well after that though. the issue is the lack of form. distractions dont help. hes paid millions in endorsements(in India) per year, the scores hes making are not worth all the endorsements he gets, he is a very average test cricketer.

I thought he was excellent against NZ and I'm happy for him to be backed as an important part of the team going forward, but facing a lot of balls while batting at 8 and being the second spinner in these conditions doesn't move me much when the team needs to win, not hold on for draws.

yeah they should get the extra pacers in there to support Bumrah. SCG is no longer a turning wicket, its a pacey wicket as per the sheffield shield competition. Might as well go for the win, like in Perth. Rana bowled well in Perth. Australia got the extra bowler in Beau Webster also(Mitch marsh: hah he was not a bowler or a batter -!)

Whatever it takes!!!
Well, to be honest, if we are to play 4 proper fast bowlers, the side I posted earlier with Pant for Jurel and Washy for NKR would be the best bet.

I mean, in an ideal world, I would drop Virat and play this side -

Jaiswal, Rahul, Washy, Gill, Pant (wk), NKR, Jaddu, Harshit, Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh.

But given Virat has to play for whatever commercial or non-cricketing reason it is, I would rather see..

Jaiswal, Rahul, Gill, Virat, Pant (wk), Jaddu, Washy, Harshit, Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh. Coz adding NKR for Washy does dilute the bowling as it seems Jaddu is not at his best either. But Harshit is clearly not test ready even though obvious potential is there, so I dont mind the actual XI we are gonna field tomm, which is...

Jaiswal, Rahul, Gill, Virat, Pant (wk), Jaddu, NKR, Washy, Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh.

Its fine as long as Prasidh can bowl decently long spells.

Just had a look at new boy Websters last Shield match which just happened to be at the SCG.

Batted #6 and made 61, bowled 1st change with 20 overs for 3/81, made 49 and then another 6 overs for 2/25.

So 110 runs and 5/106. That would do nicely at SCG Test thanks 😀
