It was very funny when Pakistan dropped Rizwan for Sarfaraz. That was one of the worst selection calls of all time, but at least there was the excuse of #justpakistanthings.

Dropping Pant for Jurel is worse.
I don't think so. Jurel is a very capable batsmen himself so it's not like he's dropped for a scrub. Ideally, I'd have both in my team and have Kohli dropped. Unfortunately, sponsors will make sure that doesn't happen.

Let's face it, there's no powerful force in cricket that can drop Kohli. He is the undroppable one. He has the greatest PR team in the history of cricket.

There's a billion ways to play all three. If you want to send a message, you could even shove him in at #3. He's easily India's second-best batsman, momentary form be damned. But it's not about that – it's politics.

Fair enough but imo dropping Pant is not too much of a drastic call.

If we're looking at someone lower down the order, we have Nitish who has different gears to his game.

The only reason Pant is in the starting eleven is his ability to score quickly but what we need more is some stability in the top/middle order. He's too irresponsible to be playing as a no.5 batter.

Time will tell whether this is a right or wrong call but this is hardly outlandish if you ask me.

Rohit being dropped is far more important at this point. Just hope the reports are true.

Pant has 23 catches in his 4 tests. In a 4 test series only Gilchrist has more with 25 in 2007/08 vs India.

Pretty harsh when the keeper has the 2nd most catches ever over 4 tests and gets dropped 😉 Should just bat him at #7 as per normal wk spot and take the pressure off his batting

Who over the age of 7 thinks number of catches has anything to do with keeping quality. Sorry to be rude but dumb post man

Gilchrist dropped quite a few in that series too and he retired shortly after the series ended.

Pretty insignificant stat. Jurel is a solid keeper himself and good with guaging DRS too as evidenced by the England series. But this team needs a reliable keeper AND batter and it looks like Pant is not doing justice to his batting position.

Again, there's too much inconsistency with India's batting throughout the series. Might as well give a chance to the reserves and hope things work out.

this is what auburn residents call their rectums too
You making some sort of homophobic connection between Auburn, being gay (nothing REALLY wrong with being gay in my opinion) and having an anus filled with semen?

You know the mods don't stand for Indian supporters breaking the rules.

played 4 tests this series. only 154 runs @ 22 . why stupid? What does he do other than bat? Just keep -Jurel can keep.

There's a whole world of cricket that existed before this series, and may inform you on the potential of cricketers to perform in the next Test beyond high variance nonsense.

hes not playing that good post the accident. the accident was pretty bad, and hes not quite the same player anymore and hes no longer in his prime for an Indian player- hes 27 and probably with the body of a 32 year old due to the accident. Jurel is 23 and just starting.

Whatever it takes!!!
So apparently only the 2 changes for India from the MCG -

Rohit out for Gill
Akashdeep injured, replaced by Prasidh Krishna.

Jaiswal
Rahul
Gill
Virat
Pant (wk)
NKR
Jaddu
Washy
Bumrah
Siraj
Prasidh.

3 proper #11s. :(

India will be on top the entire test, and despite the rain delays Australia will have to cling on desperately for the draw.
In the last over with one wicket in hand KOHLI will drop a catch and ROHIT will go into a rage.
Off the final ball of the test Rohit will then shell a sitter, and Kohli will turf the rebound chance.

Honestly if they’d dropped Pant it would have been crazy. Exactly what Aus would have wanted them to do
