Feel like these are the exact situations where a captain like stokes is good. He'de be trying some wacky **** but fully committing to it. Feels like where just kind of hoping for a wicket at this point.
I do think - at least against Reddy - we haven't gone short often enough. The one time he did look genuinely threatened was when Cummins bowled some hostile short stuff. Then Head came on and the new ball came on.

And while there's not a great exponent of it in the team, the odd yorker/slower ball might've changed things.

I do think a situation like this sorts the wheat from the chaff captaincy wise. Though it does look extremely hard to take a wicket right now.

They definitely should have bombed Reddy more but ultimately if the batsmen aren't willing to make mistakes, and they aren't, and the pitch isn't giving you anything, which it isn't, there's only so much you can do

Starc is really important to the team in these kind of circumstances and when he's spent/tired/injured/just bowling trash/whatever, and it's not turning much for Lyon, it can definitely make competent lower order strokeplayers look like specialist bats, especially against the old ball.

In saying that, these two quite arguably have it in them to become specialist bats themselves.

This has to be the most annoying partnership in the series so far.

And it just shows how much of a prick Kohli is for running out Jaiswal.

Even the short ball plan just isn't going to work here at all, mostly because it's slow, but also because Washington in particular has shown absolutely no interest in playing those deliveries.

I reckon it could work to reddy. He's looked far less comfortable on the back foot all series. The only guy i'de trust to do it is cummins and maybe he doesn't wanna fry himself before the 5th test?

Starc isn't good at Wagnerball anyway, but he is sometimes good at bowling a couple of (crap but fast) bouncers to tailenders to get them on the back foot and then knocking them over with full ones.
