Nah, Pope is absolutely brilliant. He’ll be one of the best in a few years I reckon, I’m willing to stick my neck out. Averaged over 60 in FC cricket, in English conditions, before he was picked. Crawley looks good but I can’t see him being as good as pope.
Four years on, so accurate. Pope is the absolute best at complete mediocrity. Not even a species of mediocrity that lends itself to disappointment. You know what you're getting each time he goes out to bat. Pope made 50? Get ready for him to pull to deep midwicket. Facing spin in his first over? Get ready for him to cut to slip. Inswing? Yeah getting bowled.

He is always getting injured. Another strange selection is Pat Brown, f/c average 56.53. If Carse or Atkinson get injured it will be Tongue who would called up.
Pat Brown was amazing that one Summer when his slower ball was impossible to pick but he played a few internationals that he got hammered in. I'm surprised he's at Lions level now but then I don't think anyone even pretends it's a squad in waiting now.

Yeah I don't understand why Rocky Flintoff has been picked ahead of Archie Vaughan. Also baffles me why Emilio Gay can't get a game for the Lions. Also who tf is Mitch Stanley?
Gay is 26, has improved season-on-season and scored a thousand FC runs last season averaging 50. Feels like the Lions should exist for someone like him. But he has played no representative cricket. Has someone made a decision already, or is it Div 2 bias?

To put it in context, the Australia A squad always comprises guys who've played test cricket or are decent FC cricketers who might not be far off. Harris, Renshaw, Maddinson, Hunt, Hardie, Inglis, Murphy. These kind of guys.

He was at Worcs and moved to Derbys to develop red ball skills. Mickey Arthur likes him. Not tall or fast or can bat. Can't believe he has played in the PSL 7-0-61-0

Re Sam Curran, I was amazed that it took England so long to drop him from the 50 over set up, where his bowling has long been cannon fodder. I was truly p*ssed off that he continued to get games at the last world cup, when his lack of pace had long since made him too hittable, variations or otherwise. Slightly surprised he has been binned from the 20 over set up as he probably still has some use there, although I have just seen that he failed to pick up a wicket in his last 8 international games (5 t20s, 3ODIs).

not sure if the stats back it up but I feel like Curran has been more useful with bat than ball for England recently. I guess Overton has been chosen to replace him, with Stokes injured

You are right that he's been better with the bat in 2024, looking at the recent tranche of games, but the problem is, are you going to actually pick him as a batter alone? Probably not, if his bowling is just a bit too hittable.

Talking of Sam Curran, I read that his brother Ben has been picked to play for Zimbabwe, which raises the possibility of brothers playing against each other at international level. I have no idea how often, or even whether, that has ever happened before.

Page 3: 3 brothers who played cricket for two different countries This is what I have just found. Ed Joyce played for England against his brother Dom, who played for Ireland and then the Hearne brothers, with one playing for England and the other for South Africa.

Thank you. And that was seriously quick!
No worries, I just did a search on brothers who played cricket for different countries and that's what came up. I did recall the Pattinson's and Darren's solitary test for England, but that he obviously never played against James and although they played together for Victoria, they represented Nottinghamshire a few seasons apart.
