**Official** 3rd Test @Brisbane (Ewwwww), 14th-18th December

Whatever it takes!!!
I think the two sides are more or less the same now. I thought India were better at the beginning and far better after Perth and back to slightly better after Adelaide. Whoever wins at Melbourne will be slightly better and if the same winner wins at Sydney they'll reach the far better status

You get the pattern

A more interesting question would be, is there a better cricket team than these two sides in the world atm. I'm not sure
I think this is a genuine moment in time where every team in the top 6 is just as good/bad as each other and it really just is a matter of who has the better luck/form on the given day.

FWIW, I think McSweeney is a good one for the future for Australia. For a side that is a bit of dad's army about it, its good to see the only youngster mark down his spot.

Yeah the actual designated batting line ups are like that Timmy vs Jimmy South Park episode from years ago. It's just a question of who stinks it up less on any given day.

He needs to make a score in the series though, even if it's not a big ton. He's had a pretty tough intro to tests. Even leaving Bumrah aside, the decks he's batted on haven't been easy.

Until NZ bent them over I thought they would win this series, but they were so bad I thought Aus would get them, and that mat well still happen tbf. Both teams’ batting is loads weaker than their bowling, which keeps it even
Head has been the deciding factor so far between their battings, and with Smith and Carey showing good signs Australia should win comfortably now.

Probably not, though number 3 is hard to say, NZ just beat India 3-0 away from home but lost the home series to England 2-1 and only won an intensity-less dead rubber. SA just don't play enough and Pak/SL still feel behind.

Yeah I think this is the biggest take out of the match for Aus tbh. Even if he wasn’t making runs but was bowling reasonable overs there would be a case for keeping him. As things stand he surely can’t play the last two tests
If Marsh was maybe 10 years younger you could say " back him because he could come good" ala India with Reddy but he's 33 ffs so its just not going to happen is it?

Marsh can win Australia world cups in the shorter formats, let him focus on that for his final years and bed someone new in this side because it does need some new blood IMO.

If they had just not picked him for the first Test, told him to get properly match fit (which means capable of bowling 10+ overs a day) and come back later in the series, then I would have been perfectly happy to have him around the squad. But this little saga has poisoned the well so much for me that I genuinely want him blacklisted now (at least for Tests). This isn't just a selector failure, he himself should be going to team management and saying "hey, I'm not fit to play, please pick someone else".

It really is the absolute bare minimum that you can expect, that the players eligible for selection are fit to play.

I don't imagine Cummins is asking him to get warm and he's saying 'nope, not today skip'. They know what he can offer and picked him anyway, its not on him.

Given what happened last time at the Gabba, I really wonder if this will play into Australian management's thinktank provided we get a full day's play

I mean if they set a target of 350 with 70-75 overs to spare and one bowler short, we are looking at a similar scenario to 2021. Not that India can realistically reach the target this time round especially with the top order not getting enough runs but with Australia's bowlers already looking a bit leggy, this is a really sticky situation to be in from an Australian pov.

My guess is they're going to play it safe especially with the weather interruptions and hope for things to go in their favor in the boxing day test. Tactically and taking workload management of bowlers into the equation, would be the right decision imo.

India's lower middle order added 200 runs today. It's very unlikely that they can bowl India out cheaply tomorrow.

With three fit bowlers they really should be taking zero risks. Just have a nice day long session against good bowlers and hope India get a bit more tired, there's really no point doing anything more.

Tbh I think that might have been the cold-blooded optimal approach anyway even if they had been able to enforce the follow-on (though obviously they'd have done so).
