While I think Hazlewood is a better bowler than Boland, I do feel that whenever Boland does play our lengths seem to a lot better and less over-reliance on the short ball. Add the way Cummins bowled in Adelaide and I can see there being a really stupid lower-order partnership to make the game a real 50/50.In the same situation we'd be bowling short balls.
I have no problems with the way Cummins bowled in Adelaide. He shouldn't overdo the bouncers obviously but he's a far better bowler when he hammers that back of a length and pushes the batsmen back, scrambling their footwork when he then does push it further up. He simply isn't a full outswing bowler and he shouldn't try to be.While I think Hazlewood is a better bowler than Boland, I do feel that whenever Boland does play our lengths seem to a lot better and less over-reliance on the short ball. He was our most reliable batsmen for a little period, but has looked like a tailender this series. And while he jagged a couple of wickets at Perth test, his bowling was atrocious last test. It's pretty ridiculous the instance of him playing when he's not fully fit.Honestly, so much talk about the top order and Marnus and selection etc but a plainly unfit, underdone Mitch Marsh - who isn't exactly worth making special exceptions for with his record - playing all three games so far is more ridiculous than all of that combined
This is why (though I have no problem with Haze's selection), Boland really should have played more games in these sorts of conditions; he is one bowler does get the ball to skid through consistently from a good/back of a length
It's why I've been wanting a guy who can target the stumps and isn't as hot-and-cold as Starc. While I think Hazlewood is a better bowler than Boland, I do feel that whenever Boland does play our lengths seem to a lot better and less over-reliance on the short ball. He was at the start of his career and even given all the changes to his action due to his back injuries I'm still surprised he's lost the ability to do it, though you do seem him bowl the odd one. I feel like he needs to bowl his inswinger more often at the tail, something he can do.I have no problems with the way Cummins bowled in Adelaide. I did actually hear that India thought they got a dud ball yesterday, I think Brettig reported itMaybe India just got a dud ball. 3/297 off 80 overs with old ball, then 3-30 off first 7 overs of new ball
