I said this earlier in the thread. He really made his name in white ball cricket where he was rapid, hitting 90+. On his debut he was a steady 87-88 and accurate with it. Really surprised there's so little comment about this change to an 82-83 seamer, whatever his success.
Right, thought someone had posted that he's usually quicker, but couldn't remember for sure.

Might be understandable a drop on pace in the third test of a series, but wasn't appreciably quicker in the first two either.

I don't think it's a conscious decision. I heard on a podcast that he'd said he was struggling for rhythm despite the wickets.

This strategy is ****ing absurd just bowl normally ffs.
That's interesting thanks, and fits with problems with his landing foot earlier in the series. Still though, I feel he shouldn't settle for this and will hopefully work his way through it.

Fundamental question for England is why they should be so innovative and attacking in some parts of the game but not others.

We have given some really average batsman really easy runs with these tactics. I just refuse to believe the stats back this up so why do they keep doing it?

Also interesting in light of how England do selection nowadays. Atkinson has only played 19 red ball games for Surrey so hasn't maybe totally grooved his action and certainly doesn't have much memory to fall back on when things aren't feeling right.
