2024–25 NZ domestic season

This gap in the schedule would be an excellent time for – I dunno, anything. A couple of NZ A games. A few stray Ford Trophy games. A North v South week. Heck, time allocated to replay rained out games! It's not like weeks of preparation is truly required for a slow start to the Super Smash. It wasn't meant to be nothing that would replace the 9th and 10th Plunket rounds.

Does seem a bit of a missed opportunity. I wonder if many players will go back and play club cricket with this break in the first class schedule?

I see Westlake's Jordan van Zyl won NZ Young Player of the Year in March. Family immigrated to NZ about 18 months ago. Was top run scorer at last years Gillette Cup.

Van Zyl in action at the Dolphins Centre of Excellence. Technique looks solid. Someone in the comments bemoaning that he's been lost to NZ.

In fear of bringing the wrath Howsie gets, my way.

I think the 'savings' have been replaced by more women's cricket. In my non-scientific study that there is way more women's cricket in the scoring section of nzc website. At all levels; internationals, nza, provincial, u19s (national and provincial ).

Not a complaint,just an observation.

But I think it was easier for David White to say we are scrapping 2 rounds of plunket in order to be able to afford more A tours. Rather than say we can't afford 10 PS round plus A tours with more women's cricket being scheduled.

Although ... big caveat.

Thar above post is written as if nzc revenue s flat. Which it isn't. It increase. By quite a lot.

So, could say the increase in revenue has been spent on women's cricket, rather men's

If that's the case, then why not spend it on any Tests? The Windies are putting together a team from scratch & hosting Tests, Bangladesh is putting together a proper 3-day women's comp, heck, even Zimbabwe runs a 2-day comp, while NZC won't even put together a Test for the 90th anniversary of our first Test. You can tack it onto the end of the upcoming Ashes series, it'll fit.
I just can't justify NZC's stubbornness anymore. Sorry, rant over.

I dunno.

But I'd estimate the amount of women's cricket that the nzc website or cricket archive deem worthy, has increased about 100 to 200% in a few years.

Started from a low base, admittedly.

It's very sad that Suzie Bates will retire without having ever played a Test match. Looking a certainty that will be the case for Devine as well.

Do the Kiwi women never tour England? England should always get a decent home attendance for a women's Test, even if not played at one of the larger grounds (say, Bristol?). You could play one Test along with T20s and ODIs.

We toured England this year. They offered a Test, NZC turned it down, for at least the 2nd time, probably 3rd. They've also turned down at least two offers from CA & maybe one from CSA.
NZC has been stubborn on this for years, I don't know why at this point. I'm convinced it's ideological.

It was already the case with Satterthwaite, at least.

England 2021 was the last opportunity to not field a team of 11 debutants, back when Martin was still in the side. That continuity has been broken.

If I was a senior pro and knew my board turned that down, I'd seriously consider whether it's worth playing.

Source for this? The only series I remember NZC turning down was when the Aussies wanted to come over here to play a couple tests during covid. Not that I couldn't 100% believe it mind.

Sorry? Australia wanted to play 2 Women's Tests during Covid?
NZC turns down Tests when they visit Australia (Mackay has mentioned it at least twice in commentary) & England. I would be very surprised if CA asked for NZ to host them for a Test.
