Fair point. Rachin is another example. Should never have been playing T20 and got originally drafted off the back of mainly batting 7 and bowling the odd over in T20Is.

Kyle Jamieson was another example, potentially, although at least he'd exhibited beast mode for a season...but not in that format. Then flopped when given his big pay day

I freely admit I am not rational when it comes to this competition. I used to love it back in the early days when I thought it could extend careers, but now I abhor it. Guys like JFM, Allen trot the world with similar sized egos to guys who made 10,000 Test runs across a decade or more. The cricketing version of Hawk Tuah.
Jamieson had a good super smash record and some batting aside from the red ball stuff, no?swear he took a 6fer or something in the SS.

Jamieson had one really good season in the Super Smash in 2018/19 (that was the year he took 6/7 v Auckland) when he finished top wicket taker. That season aside, he didn't play much T20 and when he did he tended to get modest returns (the season that he got picked up by RCB, he took 5 wickets in 5 games at an ER of about 8). I don't think an IPL team picking him up was that big a surprise given how good he was looking at the time, but forking out $1.8 million or whatever it was was gonzo.

LOL I'm currently with a mate who turns 70 in 10 mins from now.
He's looking up old scorecards and raving about how John Parker scored 23 runs in a series in Pakistan in 1973 and kept Rodney Redmond out of the side. Now he's on Ken Rutherford and his tour of West Indies in 1985 where he scored 12 runs in 7 innings.
Happy birthday Johnny have another gin and tonic mate.

I hadn't quite processed how far away the next test series is, though they're trying to add another tour around the same time. Dunno who, as we have recently or are touring most already - Bangers?

When is Stead gone, again?

Possible the Hamilton test could be the last for Southee, Blundell and Conway if he's playing t20 when the Zim tour is on.

Credit where credit's due, that's much better than the FTP had it. The prime Feb-Mar period being taken up by the T20 WC in 2026 is terrible, but that's easily made up by the addition of an extra test against WI which is a rare ****ing thing. We're meant to play 2 tests v SL at home and v Pak away after the Aus series and before the IPL too – very nice bumper period then.

Is there anything worse in world sport than t20 world cups every 2 years?

It's like if rugby league shelved half the nrl season for the 9s every 2 years (not taking a shot at 7s because it has differentiated itself from 15s almost entirely).
Yeah it's dire. We have a global white ball ICC tournament every year now, really devalues them. Like that period where it seemed like we had the Ashes every year.

Bitterly disappointed in the Kiwis performance this test series. Southee who i was a fan off should have stepped down after the Indian series, surely he knew his time has passed, Conway needs to play a lot more 1st class cricket and work on his technique, he is a walking wicket, Latham too needs to work on his skills, all 3 should be left out for the 3rd test, but they wont, no tests for months get some A tours organised asap.
