I think I've said this before, but I'm not particularly thrilled with a 36yo Williamson (who may or may not be past it) headlining a NZ team where half the squad is 34 or older. We're either hoping he's not washed in 2 years or hoping whoever succeeds him hits the ground running.
Maybe I'm being wildly optimistic about 26-7, but after sweeping India we can afford to be. If you can sweep India in India, Australia in Australia is just as tough, but hardly tougher. I think they could be vulnerable by then, with a similar profile to the current India side. I'm not sure if a Dad's Army team is the one for the job. If they're performing & the best we can put up, then great, but if not, then drop them for players who are better.
It's not as though Kane has a particularly great test record against Australia either? He did well on the 2015 tour but struggled in 2019/20 iirc.

Yeah, that's the other thing. If he did that badly in a series far closer to his peak, then will he really do any better at this advanced stage in his career? Would he really be an upgrade over someone who may be on the up by then, like perhaps DP?
It's not just him. By then, there could be questions around Latham, Conway, Mitchell, Henry. By then, I'm assuming Blundell is already gone & there's a fight between Hay & Chu to succeed him.

I think Kane is the least of our mid-term potential issues, really.

I assume, with NZ being a kookaburra nation, that we use this 'new kooka' in Plunket Shield and home tests?

Anyone know for sure, and if so, since when?

Wasted opportunity not to give Toby Hart a game in this England warm-up 2-dayer.

If Otago coach is cautious about a young quick in a 4-dayer PS natch, then fair enough. But if he is 12th man for 3rd consecutive time next week, yet missed that 2-day opportunity in his home town, then yuck.

IPL auction story about Jabobs putting himself up as a long shot in the auction. Gist of it appears that decision is mainly based on doing well in the Brisbane T20 competition in August.

But, maybe the most interesting factoid to take from that article is that Kyle Jamieson is also in the auction, so can assume he'd be on track to be back playing sometime this season, certainly before April.

I'd assume neither of them will get picked up, though (but IPL auctions make little sense to me anyway).

Can imagine him going down the Finn Allen route in a few years time. Definitely has the game to be a big franchise star.
He's gotta get capped first. I have no doubt he's well on the way to it, but franchise leagues don't look at uncapped NZ players. Frankly, it's astounding he made the shortlist.
