2024–25 NZ domestic season

Abbas hasn't bowled at all this season for Wellington (yet), in any format.

Wonder if this injury, not needed, or not focusing on it.

CDG aside, genuine medium pace has gone out of fashion in international cricket. Unless you're 5th bowler material it does nothing for your prospects.

International Captain
From memory he's done quite well the past few seasons
Yeah he has, genuine all rounder these days. Scores really quickly to obviously. Shame he’s 33, 3-4 years younger and he’s probably playing international cricket.

Yeah my "not a spud' comment was because he was not picked in the draft thread last season so made the Spud XI... and then was the second highest point scorer behind Nathan Smith. Had a great season.

Yeah. Abbas definitely has skills/potential to be 4th seamer though in a 3 seamer/1 spinner specialists lineup.

That Auckland shirt should be worn with the shorts they donned in the 96-97 season, which didn't last too long given they were getting knee burns in the field.

Ugh, I remember Danny Morrison bowling in shorts in one of those games. I vaguely remember reading they would do it for home games to boost interest or something.

The early 90's uniforms were a mixed bag.

Brilliant.

Considering this is, what, the 20th season of the men's comp, the 18th of the women's, & coming up to the 20th anniversary of T20I #1 at Eden Park, it's a nice touch.

Jacob Duffy playing for Otago today.

But no Young or/either Santner.

Determination to stop Santner developing at Plunket Shield level is admirably dogged.

In other news, Lennox who is having a very good season, is 12th man, understandable, with Ajaz the preferred spinner and a tail not starting at 7 this round.

CD picking 5 bowlers again, so Randell #7, Patel #8. So last two games they preferred an extra bowler, so not many overs needed from Schmulian or Clarkson (now injured) / Clark.

Seems that a lot of teams are pushing all-rounders up into the middle order.
Randall at 7 for CD as noted above - great to see him back from injury though.
Canterbury with 5 Hay, 6 Rippon, 7 Foulkes
Auckland with 5 Jacobs (a promotion from 7/8, though he shouldn't have ever been that low), 6 Keene (who imo does need to bat top-6), 7 Sunde (hasn't scored runs this season).
ND has Hampton officially an allrounder batting at 6. Similarly Van Beek is at 7 now for Wellington, which he also deserves.

Otago buck the trend - batsman-turned-opening-seamer Georgeson at 6 and specialist batsman Llew Johnson apparently at 8?
