Plus Jamieson & ShipleyI'm calling it early. Cam Paul is gonna play a lot of cricket for NZ. Between him, O'Rourke, Mariu, Hay and Foulkes, the Canterbury mafia are back!
The Canterbury mafia are alive and well. They have 13 NZ-capped players and – unironically – 12 good seamers.I'm calling it early. Cam Paul is gonna play a lot of cricket for NZ. Between him, O'Rourke, Mariu, Hay and Foulkes, the Canterbury mafia are back!
I thought he made one for NZA at one point?Sean Solia may be into his 66th FC game and have scored 21 fifties, but all of his FC centuries have come at home against Wellington.
Whichever selector left him out for Canterbury's first Plunket game must be cursing himself. He's got all the hallmarks of a great new hope.Spent the afternoon watching Mariu bat. Looks every inch an international player. Strong off the front and back foot. Organized defence. Disciplined outside his off stump. Took a beauty to get rid of him for a paltry 87. Honestly, I think there's a very strong case to be argued for him replacing Conway as soon as next week.
I presume that was to give Latham a run. Still odd that Bowes would get a run ahead of Mariu, but I suppose he's a lot more experienced and has played for NZ.Whichever selector left him out for Canterbury's first Plunket game must be cursing himself. He's got all the hallmarks of a great new hope.
Still remains a long domestic season for him to get through – hopefully he can keep it up; if so, he'll surely be selected for the Zimbabwe tour, at which time Conway may be caught up with MLC.
They were playing Matt Boyle though. Mariu has played at #3 previously IIRC.I presume that was to give Latham a run. Still odd that Bowes would get a run ahead of Mariu, but I suppose he's a lot more experienced and has played for NZ.
Yeah I must have been thinking of the 91.
A regular Tom Cooper against NSW thenSean Solia may be into his 66th FC game and have scored 21 fifties, but all of his FC centuries have come at home against Wellington. In such matches, he averages 130.57.
Conway just looks so out of sorts, I honestly don't see him making any runs. The temptation is there to pick the kid who's in red hot form who the pommes will have never seen. Also gives you a rh/lh opening combination.Yerg I really don't want to drop Conway, still think he's an excellent player.... somewhere in there. However I am curious now if he is going to miss tests next year like others have said. If so then yeah, he gives up a chance to someone else to perform in his spot.
Great to see Mariu continue to excel.
Luke Butterworth too the absolute ****.A regular Tom Cooper against NSW then
The Bazballers would do it. Is that a good reason? I don't know.Conway just looks so out of sorts, I honestly don't see him making any runs. The temptation is there to pick the kid who's in red hot form who the pommes will have never seen. Also gives you a rh/lh opening combination.
Obviously won't happen with Stead at the wheel, and even then there is the part of me that knows Conway was a class player who made vital runs in India, even if his overall form has been mud for a couple of years. But if I was on the NZ selection panel for a dead rubber test, I'd probably be leaning towards giving Mariu a run.
