Botvinnik is the literally the father of the Soviet school of chess. His impact on the game and the champions that followed out of Russia add to his legacy in addition to his own capabilities as a player. Why do you guys rate both of botvinnik, tal ahead of lasker?i mean, lasker was world number 1 not only by being wcc champion, but also by chessmetric standards.lasker was also one of the greatest ever tournament player(greatest,if you believe alekhine)Botvinnik had a terrible record in wcc,he was also helped by Soviet administration.Tal was world champion for just 1 year.(If you say he was unorthodox,so was lasker).(Sorry nothing personal and apologies if i have committed any grammatical mistake)

Find it hard where to exactly rank him amongst the elites of the game hence I generally abstain from including him in such listsNo Di Stefano????
Why?? Di Stefano played in an era competitive enough and not too dissimilar to Pele.Find it hard where to exactly rank him amongst the elites of the game hence I generally abstain from including him in such lists
I don't necessarily disagree but it feels a bit like the cricket equivalent of Ranji - Trumper as far as eras are concerned. And I'm just not able to have a consistent opinion on him with his prime coming in 'pre-Pele' era of football. Why?? Di Stefano played in an era competitive enough and not too dissimilar to Pele.
Imo Andrade, Meazza and Sindelar is more akin to Ranji-Trumper. Di Stefano is more like Hobbs (and was more of a contemporary of Hutton). The most complete footballer ever imho.I don't necessarily disagree but it feels a bit like the cricket equivalent of Ranji - Trumper as far as eras are concerned. And I'm just not able to have a consistent opinion on him with his prime coming in 'pre-Pele' era of football.
