Need a good javelin here from KJT if she's going to fight for gold, because she really needed to extend her lead coming out of the long jump

Apparently, Thiam has been having arm issues and is perhaps not in her best javelin throwing form. If the lead is only 70 points or so come the 800m then KJT should be able to comfortably deal with that. Anything over 100 should make Thiam safe. Anything in between and we'll have a mathematical nightmare going on for 2 mins!!

Can't just be me who finds the fact the Irish runner in this 800m heat is called 'English' pretty funny.

Decent effort from KJT

I don't think there are very many athletes who consistently look as exhausted as she does though

100 point lead would be Thiam throwing just under 53m which is in line with her season's best

Their last 2 recorded 800m times had 103 points between them, but I think that might be asking a lot for KJT to overturn. I reckon 80 points is probably doable. Much depends on the Thiam javelin....

Yeah, that's game over. Ironically, it was KJT's best events (200m and Long Jump) that have probably cost her the gold.
Yeah, she'd probably have needed to go at about 23 seconds in the 200m up to 6.55m in the long-jump or some combination of both to get it down to about an 80 point deficit to make up

Both of which should've been well within her compass.

Don't think anyone had a great long-jump to be fair, didn't look like great conditions, but yeah should probably have done better at the 200m.

But at the same time, beating Thiam is always incredibly difficult

Seriously impressive by Richardson to bring that relay home given how awful that last changeover was

Our changes looked awful there in the 4 x 100m relay. Would probably have won if they were good.

Hopefully no DQ coming
