English Domestic Season 2024

Warwickshire sign Zen Malik (England Under 19s in 2016) on two year deal. Glamorgan also apparently offered him a pro contract.

Would having played for 10 first class counties' 2nd XIs be a record?

A triumph for persistency as well as talent.

Any Durham fans know if Dwarshuis is going to hang around after the hundred to play in their Blast quarter final? Couple of weeks between them so may go back to Oz?

Went to Kibworth today - a new venue for me. Arriving at the ground by car is rustic in the extreme as you park on a football ground, take your requested own chair with you and trek with it across three fields and through a copse of trees. En route I imagined people getting to matches in the 18th century.
Once there, it is a nicely presented outground, with a good-sized and relatively flat outfield. It is on the edge of the village and there are views of the countryside outside the ground and trees on two sides. Seating was mostly BYO and catering facilities were on the basic side of normal.

In the match itself, the Surrey innings rather tailed off in the last 10 overs, probably revealing the lack of specialist one day batsmen in the team. The key point of the game was the Leicestershire middle order’s losing too many wickets in the middle overs which left their tail just too much to do.

He wasn't contracted to play beyond July.

But then at that point he wasn't picked for the Hundred and Bedders wasn't in South Africa A one day series against Sri Lanka(which takes placed before and after the QF)

So imagine North may try to convince him to stay for that QF.

Only just seen this, thanks for the reply.

I read that Leicestershire are going to start charging for their live stream, as Kent earlier did for T20. Can’t imagine that that many would pay but let’s see. Any word on how the Kent experiment went?

What the actual ****. That's at least 3 decent county attacks worth of seam bowlers.

On that basis, you've forgotten Spencer Johnson, who only plays in the T20 games.

I have no idea how it works contractually and how they're actually remunerated, but here's my take on the blokes in your list.
Worrall - there's talk of him being picked for England when he qualifies next year. And he is 33 now.
Roach - getting old, as he has just turned 36
Overton - never bowls due to fitness issues
Lawes
Atkinson - looks like he'll be playing for England or under instructions to be rested
J Clark
Curran T - only plays T20s for Surrey as he has retired from red-ball cricket.
Curran S - only plays T20s for Surrey. I don't think he's retired from the red ball game, but he's hardly ever available for the CC.
C Jordan - only plays T20s for Surrey. I think they only sign him for The Blast.
C Mckerr - only plays in the 50 over cup because he isn't good enough for the CC or for the T20s
Dunn - only plays in the 50 over cup because he isn't good enough for the CC or for the T20s
Barnwell - very inexperienced, has played in the 50 over cup without giving any indication that he's good enough for the CC
Topley- only plays T20s for Surrey. I think they only sign him for the Blast.
Taylor
Fisher next season

Looking at it like that, you can see why they've signed Fisher, especially for the CC games.

And although there are a lot of T20 specialists, much of the time they're playing in franchises elsewhere.

A completely different bowling attack for each competition.

Must be nice.
Well McKerr, Dunn and Barnwell are from the 2nd XI, only being promoted for the 50 over Cup. I think the key issue here is the number of T20 specialists; two of them home-grown (the Currans, of course), and the financial clout to buy in Johnson, Jordan and Topley (although I don't know how often he's played in The Blast this year).

Durham made 307

Kent going well with Finch scoring a ton but he’s just got out 223 for 3 with 14.3 overs left

could be a tight one
