The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

bagapath

International Captain
There was a ten plus year gap between Gower/ Gooch's retirement and Pietersen's debut. Everyone in between was well below the ATVG category.

... as opposed to the Gentlemen (amateurs) v Players (professionals) games that were played in England between 1806 and 1962.

Steyn was a gentleman? Also I feel Woodfull deserves a spot
Woodfull deserves a spot but don't want to drop anyone.
Steyn was a good fella, definitely more gentleman than most upper tier pacers I believe. (Or it could very well be I am missing some big controversy, don't know).

India's All time ODI XI for the time being

Sachin
Rohit
Kohli
Yuvi
Dhoni
Kapil
Hardik
Kuldeep
Kumble/Srinath
Bumrah
Shami

KL had a chance to overtake Yuvi at 4 but his tapering form and Yuvi's overall body of work plus his useful SLA tips the balance. Shocking how far ahead Kuldeep is from the rest of spinners in LOIs.

Kapil at 6 and Hardik at 7 with a long tail makes the batting line-up too shallow imo. Like what even is the point of Hardik when you have 5 proper bowlers and 6th options in Yuvi and Sachin?

Hadlee? Davidson? Pollock? Just random names honestly I don’t know enough of their character off the top of my head
I remember reading somewhere of Hadlee to not being the best character, not sure of the others honestly. Steyn do look like a lovely bloke to me, always loved him in action and his interviews looks good.

Nah, that's just your povertarian/scarcity mindset that is conditioned to associate more specialist batsmen with depth. That line-up has 4 bats who average ~50. It's not shallow. Hardik/Kapil at 6 and 7 add lower order firepower that India has traditionally lacked. No compromise on wicket taking threat with Kuldeep, Bumrah and Shami. Srinath and Kumble to play based on conditions.
