Better test cricketer.

I some see the Jadeja hype. I’d put Sehwag and Laxman and Bumrah over Jadeja for the Indian test cricketer rankings but others clearly disagree.

Both have the same advantage, that being great at home and questionable away. Jadeja being a 20 averaging bowler with a 5 WPM and a 40 averaging bat is more impressive for me. None were the leads really. And Jadeja's batting is actually quite good away.

Average of sub 25 for a spinner is all time stuff. An average of >35 puts him as a very capable batter.

And of course, the fielding is also exceptional, which is a huge advantage. Only thing better than an all-rounder of his caliber (as far as value as a cricketer) would be a fast bowling all arounder ala Imran, Botham at his peak, Hadlee, Miller, etc.

HOWEVER, Sehwag would make my all time India XI. Jadeja - I go back and forth on.

Gavaskar
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Kohli
Dev
Dhoni
Ashwin/Kumble?
Amar Singh
Bumrah
Bedi

Problem is I don't want both Bedi and Jadeja in the side. And I guess you can go with 3 spinners and 2 fast bowlers but I don't love that either for an all time side outside of India. Though having all of Dev, Jadeja and Ashwin would really help the batting. Kumble too, though less than Ashwin - but with Kumble you have leg spin which is very important to have overseas as well, to provide that control.

Bangladesh has a Jadeja equivalent in Shakib and fat lot of a good that’s done for them.

they would have won more matches with Sehwag.

Sehwag has also won a lot more matches than Jadeja including out of India

Both won a lot of games in Asia, some in Australia and Windies but barely anything in SEN.

I think Sehwag maybe slightly ahead due to longevity but Jadeja can surpass him.

Jadeja easily. I really don't see how Sehwag's batting was so much more impactful than Jadeja's AR contributions. The only Indian Test batters who have a reasonable claim to be above Jadeja in a list of India's greatest cricketers are Tendulkar and Gavaskar.
