Indeed. That has been my point. I give some points to Viv for that.Viv was a good captain. But not the Imran, Ganguly, Ranatunga or Lloyd level captain who changed the structure, mindset and out look of the teams radically.
Who do you rate better in primary disciplines?Yes and no.
Hadlee's slightly better, not as lopsided as this vote is.
Hadlee by a hair.Who do you rate better in primary disciplines?
Yeah going through his record shows Hadlee is a tad overrated.Hadlee by a hair.
But in reality, 3rd and 5th is practically even.
I don't know about over rated, but he's a clear no. 3 for me as I've said for a while.Yeah going through his record shows Hadlee is a tad overrated.
Hadlee has similar issues to Ambrose in overall record but was more consistent.I don't know about over rated, but he's a clear no. 3 for me as I've said for a while.
Don't think he's good as the top 2. Also Ambrose was right there with him prior to the shoulder injury
Becuse of the shoulder injury.Hadlee has similar issues to Ambrose in overall record but was more consistent.
You remember that. Good. We had a whole debate where I was trying to drive that point home.Becuse of the shoulder injury.
Your argument was that he wasn't effective and his average meant nothing. I still disagree with that, but he also wasn't the 3rd best bowler ever during that period other. You remember that. Good. We had a whole debate where I was trying to drive that point home.
I think I may have got you to even readjust Hadlee a bit also in your mind. He isn't as close to McGrath perhaps?
I think prior to that there wasnt a general perception of the extent to which the 94 shoulder injury impacted his penetration. Folks were just reading series averages blindly.Yout argument WA that he wasn't effective and his average meant nothing. I still disagree with that, but he also wasn't the 3rd best bowler ever during that period other.
There's middle ground that you refuse to acknowledge.
And it was still a magnificent effort to keep his average whare it was, and he was still a brilliant bowler after.I think prior to that there wasnt a general perception of the extent to which the 94 shoulder injury impacted his penetration. Folks were just reading series averages blindly.
Soon I will get you to accept that Hadlee also has a somewhat imbalanced record too.
After that, we'll see what we can do about McGrath.
Sure but I will take that as a begrudging acceptance of my argument. And it was still a magnificent effort to keep his average whare it was, and he was still a brilliant bowler after.
I haven't seen you raise the point of Hadlee's heavy concentration of tests in a few areas before, though you have acknowledged it in this thread to your credit. Let's build in that.Hadlee is already adjusted for what ever you're pushing. Hence I have McGrath as a clear no 2 for me. Hence when I said it's a toss up as overall players even factoring in Hadlee's batting, something you scoffed at.
