So to surpass Sachin he needs ~4200 runs. His current average runs per test is 83.8. So if that trend continues, he’d need to play 50 more tests. England play 9 more tests this year and likely (?) 10+ tests in future years, so he’d need to play til he’s 38-39. Definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

He scored 83.8 runs per tests and has played 140 tests in 12 years. If he plays for 5 more years then his estimated run in this period would be 83.8*(140/12)*5~4800......yeah unlikely but not impossible either:mellow:
14k+ runs is probable tho

Well looking at recent quality batsmen’s retirement ages..

Bell 32
Cook 33
Pietersen 33

(actually Root might be done before years end…)

de Villiers 34
Clarke 34*
Amla 35
Sanga 37
Taylor 37
Warner 37
Younis 39
Chanderpaul 40
Misbah 42

So he’d have to be on the upper end of the spectrum. Though, for a batsman of his quality a later age should be fine. iirc everyone was surprised when Sanga (the best bat on this list) retired so young.

He’s rated a lot higher on CW than he is outside of CW tbf. Very few cricket fans outside of CW would rate him higher than guys like ABD/Kohli/Ashwin.
But that doesn't make Stokes better than root...don't really think people outside cw rank Stokes ahead of root (I'm not sure)
