My order:-

Steve Smith
Joe Root
Ravichandran Ashwin
Younis Khan
Ravindra Jadeja
Hashim Amla
Kevin Pietersen
Kane Williamson
Ben Stokes
Shakib Al Hasan

A 36 averaging batsman who can't pick 2 WPM on average isn't better than 47 averaging specialist batsman.

tbf, a 37 averaging bat and 29 averaging ball for 85 tests is a better career than a 47 averaging bat from 2000s, because the prior has been rare for a while, the latter? they are dime a dozen

who would've thought comparing an all rounder to a specialist Batsmen would work better when you actually consider what an all rounder is.

29 averaging bowler who can't even pick 2 WPM and that too with home conditions in England lol...

What's the primary skill by the way? 36 average with bat is mediocre and 200 wickets in 110 tests is mediocre too. That reminds me of a tag aptly suited in this case, "bits and pieces".

well if 37 with bat and 29 with ball is bits n pieces I wonder what Kapil Dev was, 31 with the bat and 29 with the ball.

I'd like to see better all rounders than Stokes who debuted in this century, Afterall, I can name a dozen better batsmen than Pietersen who debuted this century.

WPM of close to 4..... It will be a real stretch to compare the bowling of Dev and Stokes on "average"; dare I say on bigger than doing so for Viv and Hussey......

That's the point. Averages are not the only indicator of a player's stature. Zaheer Khan and Jacques Kallis averages same but are they comparable as bowlers?

In a same way, Stokes is comfortably 2-3 leagues below Dev as a bowler. Stokes had more home friendly conditions for bowling than Dev and Dev did it without any support.

Stokes is a better batsman than Dev but Dev is way ahead of Stokes as a bowler.

didn't compare their bowling, I want his justification to say 29 bowling average isn't good and 37 batting average isn't good.

29 bowling average is good if he picks 300 test wickets in 100 tests and not 200 test wickets. If Stokes is not bowling, he has to make up by averaging in 40s to be considered a player at the level of Root, Cook and KP.

and WPM is only a measure of the preassure one shoulders?

Stokes his whole career has been comfortably inferior to English pacers, he exclusively is the fifth bowler or the fourth bowler, he doesn't need to bowl himself into dust when the other English pacers do their job pretty well.

Dev is obviously levels above Stokes as a pacer, but the point is WPM is impacted by things you can't control and is an even less accurate measure of a player's ability than averages, Yeah Stokes doesn't need to bowl much most of the time, but when he gets the ball he's a 29 a piece bowler which is good enough for an AR

Discussing last 8 years as the perception of some is they work against him when compared to a chump like Pietersen
