Taylor, Ashwin, Healy too high.

Haynes too low.

Ross Taylor I think is quite an underrated bat. Ashwin is probably a bit too high, but I do think he is better than Dravid, so that felt about right. Healy is one of the best wicketkeeper ever. Though wasn't much with the bat, that felt about right. Haynes I feel is massively overrated in Tests for some reason. He was a big home bully, if anything I am thinking now Warner should had been ahead.

Ashwin over Ponting - nah I'm not having that. Top 30 is fair but top 20 is too high.

I like Haynes. Has more quality overseas performances than his away average suggests and opening tax broadens that value. Only place he was never effective was India. Also not convinced having a better home average than Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Clive Lloyd should go completely ignored.

Think he's a better test bat than Taylor tbh. Worth pointing out Zimbabwe give Taylor's away numbers an almighty boost.

Ashwin over Ponting.... Is debatable. I have Ponting almost equal to Dravid, and Ashwin ahead of him. So went with that. I believe Ashwin is a top 5 home bowler of all time and made India an outright fort, also was a genuine allrounder in his batting peak. Above Ponting is debatable, but definitely top 20.
Haynes I take that, but still the average split is too awful. Did very well at home, but not completely sold away still. I think he is around Warner/Atherton level opener.
The only player below Ross who is pushing him is Thorpe. I think he was a better bat than the rest. Serve NZ cricket splendidly in a relatively weak lineup. I bunch him with Pujara. Definitely ahead of Haynes for me.

Haynes Taylor home away splits are identical without Zimbabwe. Haynes never got to plunder a severe minnow attack like that in test cricket and he opened.

Definitely better than Warner and Atherton too for me. Better player of lateral movement than both.

Fair enough. Taylor did better in Australia and carried a weaker team.
Warner was also quite destructive when on song and could outright dominate any attack in Australia, scoring at a really high SR. Was also brilliant in SA.

Haynes had some brutal assignments early on in his career in Aus and had a great tour there in the late 80s. Taylor's record is inflated by a single innings. He averages 27 there outside that.

Weaker team yeah but think big team tax is negated a bit by opening.

Some really Good arguments. I just think Taylor overall did better than Haynes.
