I was gonna suggest Lord Gah.David Gower with 119 (82-90)
He probably does, I was going based off the 5 year + 40 innings peak thread. How does his peak start in 1982 when I already pointed out he didn't hit a century in 13 tests between Feb 82 and Nov 83. He must have a shorter peak?
Such a disingenuous framing of his early career, but as usual, carry on.Marshall clearly had a very well defined peak, from 1983 (before which he wasn't an automatic selection in the WI bowling attack, despite playing since 78) to 89 (after which he wasn't as effective, best showcased in the 92 WC).
Now, I have a thing against Carribbean cricketers.... I guess whatever makes you happy. Doesn't change the fact though that what I said was true, not to mention I can't remember I ever said Marshall to not be the Greatest bowler ever, but oh well.Such a disingenuous framing of his early career, but as usual, carry on.
Didn't even intimate that. Now, I have a thing against Carribbean cricketers.... I guess whatever makes you happy. Doesn't change the fact though that what I said was true, not to mention I can't remember I ever said Marshall to not be the Greatest bowler ever, but oh well.
I don't think there is anything wrong with the statement that he wasn't an automatic selection until 5 years of his international career..... A lot of reasons why, sure. Had he been selected consistently from before 83 or should he had not debuted in 78; most probably. But doesn't change that fact.Didn't even intimate that.
What I said was that a miss characterization of his early career. He played in 78 because of WWC, after I believe 2 or less first class games. Then from around '80nwhen he was ready, there was the quartet.
Similar to Lara there were many who opined that he was unfairly held back, but the established guys were there.
2010/11 Ashes onwards was a genuine second wind for him. He was inches away from getting dropped due to a pretty long trough but from that point on scored heaps of runs until he retired.maybe Michael Hussey? He started off at the peak and was just downhill? Not sure if that counts.
That's kinda how I understood what he was saying. He wasn't an auto selection because of competition. What I said was that a miss characterization of his early career. He played in 78 because of WWC, after I believe 2 or less first class games. Then from around '80nwhen he was ready, there was the quartet.
I'd think players like Worrell and Miandad who started well and never really peaked or tailed off. Bowling someone like Ambrose who was mostly consistent his entire career (I haven't looked)Who are the players with full careers without any concentrated peak period?
Wasn't Ambrose less penetrative post injury?? Also, Miandad and Worrell debuted in their peak and kinda failed off relatively later on.I'd think players like Worrell and Miandad who started well and never really peaked or tailed off. Bowling someone like Ambrose who was mostly consistent his entire career (I haven't looked)
Aside from 81/82 season - dismissed for 7 ducks including 4 in a row.How about Greg Chappell?
It's true Miandads average never went below 50 but I think between 83 to 89 he did peak.I'd think players like Worrell and Miandad who started well and never really peaked or tailed off. Bowling someone like Ambrose who was mostly consistent his entire career (I haven't looked)
Sure but I think he ended up averaging same early career and post WSC overall.Aside from 81/82 season - dismissed for 7 ducks including 4 in a row.
His averages by country and opponent are ridiculous.Apparently this was Border’s peak..

0 ducks in 83 innings is impressive. (part of a streak of 89, 4th longest)
